How to report a scammer on TikTok and the copy using your name

Short answer. How to report a scammer on TikTok: press and hold the scam video, comment or message, or open the profile's Share button, then tap Report and choose Fraud and scams. A TikTok Shop scam also goes through the order page, where the refund request lives. How to report impersonation on TikTok: Report account, then Pretending to be someone, or the ID-backed webform. A report removes accounts; it never returns money.

A TikTok scam rarely stays inside one feature. A giveaway comment leads to a direct message, the message leads to a payment request, and the account behind it often copies a real creator or brand so the request looks safe. Each of those pieces has its own report path, and each path lands in a different review queue.

This guide sorts the routes by where the scam happened, sets out what to save before the account disappears, and covers the forms a creator or brand can file when the scammer is using their name or logo. Report labels were checked against TikTok's own safety posts and policies on 6 October 2026. When a copy keeps returning under new handles, or the scam has already damaged a name in search results, the work moves into our content removal casework.

Scams that started on TikTok cost people in the US $79 million in reported losses in 2025. Facebook led every platform at $794 million, ahead of WhatsApp at $425 million and Instagram at $234 million.FTC Consumer Sentinel data, Data Spotlight of 27 April 2026; per-platform figures as reported by PPC Land, 1 May 2026.

How do you report a scammer on TikTok? Start where the scam happened

How do you report a scammer on TikTok? File the report from the place the scam happened, because that item is what a moderator reviews. A scam video, comment or direct message is reported by pressing and holding it; a scam account is reported from its profile; a LIVE is reported from inside the stream. In each menu, the reason to pick is Fraud and scams.

Banner reading Reported where it ran, reviewed as that item: how to report a scammer on TikTok from the scam itself
A report on one comment or clip asks a moderator about that item alone; the account behind it is reviewed only when the profile itself is reported.

TikTok's own safety post of 17 March 2025 gives the short version: hold down on the screen, tap Report and select fraud and scams. The harder part of how to report a scam on TikTok is choosing which item to report. A report on one comment says nothing about the account behind it, and the account is what keeps scamming.

Where the scam happenedWhat to reportPath in the appAlso do

One account usually sits behind several rows of that table, so report the account as well as the post that reached you. A moderator who reviews only a video can remove that video and leave the profile running. Accounts end when their violations add up, which is how TikTok's strike system bans an account.

How to report a scammer on TikTok from a computer: the steps match the app, with the More options button on the profile in place of Share. An in-app report does not name you to the account you report, and TikTok publishes no review time for user reports.

TikTok's enforcement report for January to March 2026 puts the share of removed videos taken down within 24 hours at 94.4%.TikTok Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, January–March 2026.

That figure covers every removal, most of which TikTok's own systems find before anyone reports them. TikTok scam reporting by users fills the gap those systems miss: private messages, scams that move off the app, and copies of real people that look legitimate until someone who knows the original says otherwise. Learning how to report scam on TikTok against the account, and not only the post, is what turns one viewer's suspicion into a review of the whole account.

Before you report a scammer on TikTok, save what a ban will erase

Save the evidence before you report a scammer on TikTok, because a successful report can remove it. When TikTok bans the account, its profile, videos and the messages it sent can stop loading, and those screens are what a bank, card issuer or police officer asks for once money has moved. Ten minutes of links and screenshots first costs nothing.

Most guides on how to report a scammer on TikTok stop at the Report button. A TikTok scammer report itself carries only the reason you pick and a pointer to the item; everyone else in the chain needs more, and the checklist below is the order we use in casework.

  1. Copy the profile link

On the scam profile, tap Share, then Copy link, and paste it somewhere outside TikTok. Take a screenshot showing the @handle and display name too, because a scammer can change both in seconds.

  2. Screen-record the chat

Scroll through the whole conversation while recording, from the first message to the payment instructions. Single screenshots lose the order of events, and the order is what shows a bank that you were deceived.

  3. Keep the payment trail

Receipts, transaction IDs, gift card numbers and their receipts, crypto wallet addresses and the TikTok Shop order number. A card issuer can act on a transaction ID; it cannot act on a username.

  4. Write down the dates

When contact started, when you paid, and when you reported. Banks and the FTC both ask, and memory blurs within a week.

  5. Then report, then block

Report the account and the specific messages, then block. Blocking first can hide the profile you still need to report.

Investment scams made up $1.1 billion of the $2.1 billion people in the US reported losing to scams that began on social media in 2025, and nearly 60% of people who lost money to a romance scam said it started on a social platform.Federal Trade Commission, Data Spotlight, 27 April 2026.

Investment and romance scams are the ones that run longest in direct messages, often for weeks before the first payment, which makes them the cases where a quick report destroys the most evidence. Scammers of both kinds often move the payment step to Telegram. Save that chat as well, and use Telegram's scam reporting routes and the steps for reporting the Telegram account itself.

How to report a scammer on TikTok Shop and get the order refunded

How to report a scammer on TikTok Shop depends on how you paid. If the money went through TikTok Shop checkout, open the order and request a refund or return there, then report the seller from the shop page: the order page reaches the refund queue, the report reaches the policy queue. If the seller moved payment off TikTok, the Shop refund process has no record to act on.

Banner reading Paid inside, refunded inside: the checkout run passes the refund gate; an off-app payment stops short
A Shop refund request needs an order TikTok processed; a seller paid by transfer leaves the buyer with only the bank's dispute process.

Knowing how to report a TikTok Shop scam therefore starts with one question: did the money go through the app? A seller who asks for payment by Zelle, Cash App, bank transfer or a link to an outside site is stepping outside the system that can refund you. That request on its own is a reason to report the shop.

  1. Open the order first

In your orders, open the purchase and start a refund or return request with the reason that fits: not received, not as described or counterfeit. For orders shipped through TikTok's own logistics, a refund-only request for a parcel that never arrived opens 48 hours after the estimated delivery date.

  2. Report the seller

To report scam on TikTok Shop listings, open the shop or product page, use the menu, choose Report and pick the reason closest to what happened. Attach the order number and screenshots of the listing if the form allows it.

  3. Report the video or LIVE that sold it

An affiliate creator's video is a separate item from the seller's shop. If that video made claims the product did not meet, report it as well.

  4. Escalate the payment if the refund is refused

A card chargeback or bank claim is the next step, with the order record and the refund refusal as evidence.

TikTok Shop may approve a refund automatically once an order is more than 6 days past its estimated delivery time, for items up to $100, or up to $60 for electronics.TikTok Shop US Customer Order Cancellation, Return and Refund Policy, Seller University.

Off-platform payment is also where most of the money goes. More than 40% of people who lost money to a scam on social media in 2025 said it started when they ordered something they saw in an ad, according to the FTC's April 2026 Data Spotlight. Many of those ads led to outside websites, where no platform refund applies.

In a September 2026 survey of 1,029 US adults, 34.7% of those who met marketplace fraud named TikTok Shop as the platform where it happened, and 27.5% of those targeted by a scam said they lost money.BrandShield 2026 Consumer Fraud and Trust Report, as reported by PPC Land, 9 September 2026.

BrandShield did not adjust that ranking for how many people shop on each platform, so it measures where fraud was reported, not which marketplace is riskiest per order. To report TikTok Shop scam sellers well, report the shop and not only the product: TikTok says it removed more than 700,000 sellers in the first half of 2025, mostly by closing shops over shop-level violations. How a shop's health score drops to closure is covered in what gets a TikTok account or shop banned.

How do you report a TikTok LIVE gifting scam?

Report a TikTok LIVE gifting scam from inside the stream while it runs: tap Share, then Report, and pick the reason that fits, then report the host's profile as well. A stream that promises a prize, a payout or a follow-back in return for gifts is the usual pattern. Stop gifting before anything else, because TikTok does not refund Gifts already sent.

Banner reading Gifts leave and never return: the gift run passes the gate and turns away; the return run stays dotted
A LIVE report can end the stream and the host's account; Coins already spent on Gifts stay spent under TikTok's Virtual Items Policy.

TikTok's Virtual Items Policy, last updated 22 January 2026, says Gifts are consumed when sent and “are not returnable or refundable in any circumstances.” The same policy says Coins bought directly from TikTok are not refundable once credited. The only refund question left open is with whoever sold you the Coins, such as an app store, under that seller's own rules.

Copy accounts that streamed stolen footage of real creators collected roughly 50 to 200 gifts in a half-hour LIVE, and TikTok kept a 50% share when the resulting Diamonds were cashed out.Satnam Narang, Tenable Research, 22 October 2021.

Tenable's figures are from 2021 and TikTok's payout terms may differ today, but the pattern it documented still holds: a copy of a real creator goes LIVE and collects gifts from viewers who think they are watching the original. To report TikTok LIVE for scam behaviour that has already ended, report the host's profile under Fraud and scams, and keep your own screenshots of the stream with the date and time.

Viewers who report TikTok LIVE gifting scam streams rarely see the host's other channels. If the stream pushed viewers to a website, a Telegram group or a payment app, report those too; the TikTok report removes the stream, not the destination it sent people to. Gift and in-game currency scams aimed at younger viewers run the same way on gaming platforms, where the bans a server or game owner can issue are covered in getting a player banned on Roblox.

How to report impersonation on TikTok when the scammer wears your name

How to report impersonation on TikTok when a scammer is using your name, photos or brand: open the fake profile, tap Share, then Report, Report account and Pretending to be someone, and choose Me. If that report fails, or the copy is already taking money, file TikTok's impersonation webform with a photo of yourself holding government ID. Both routes are free.

Banner reading The copy has no ID: the original's run passes the gate while the copy's run breaks and stops short
A copy can reuse the same face and display name; it cannot hold up the original's passport or driving licence beside that face.

The in-app impersonation report TikTok receives carries only a reason and a link, which is why a near-identical copy can survive it. TikTok's own impersonation post of 30 September 2025 sets the line: an account pretending to be another person must make clear in its display name that it is a fan or parody account. A scam copy almost never does, because the label would defeat the scam.

Knowing how to report a TikTok impersonation account is half the job; the other half is proof that you are the original. TikTok's US impersonation request form asks for up to 10 profile links per request, a description of up to 300 characters, your real @username, a photo of yourself holding a passport, driving licence or other government ID, and an electronic signature under penalty of perjury. Outside the US, the same request goes through TikTok's Report a problem form under Report a potential violation, then Account violation, then Impersonation.

The steps for how to report an impersonation account on TikTok from a browser are the same as in the app, with More options in place of the Share button. The fastest way to report impersonation account TikTok clusters, where one scammer runs five copies of you, is the webform, because it takes up to 10 links in one request. Every field of both forms, and the reasons a request comes back refused, are set out in our walk-through for fake TikTok accounts.

Anyone working out how to report someone on TikTok for impersonation of a friend meets a limit. The US webform acts for the person copied, a parent, guardian or lawyer acting for them, or a brand acting for itself, and stops a request from a friend. A friend can still report the copy in the app under Pretending to be someone or Fraud and scams, which is often how the first warning reaches TikTok.

How to report a TikTok account for impersonation also depends on what the scammer took. If the scammer got into your real account rather than copying it, the case is account recovery, and an impersonation report on your own handle will not help.

Brand abuse: the TikTok trademark report form, copyright form and DMCA route

When a scam account uses a registered brand name or logo, the TikTok trademark report form is often stronger than an impersonation report, because the owner proves a registration rather than a resemblance. When the account reposts your videos, the TikTok copyright report form applies. Both are web forms for the rights owner or an authorised agent, and a copyright report can reveal the owner's name to the uploader.

RouteUse it whenWho can fileWhat it asks of you

For a brand, how to report impersonation on TikTok usually means two filings: the impersonation route for the profile and the trademark route for the mark. There is no separately named TikTok DMCA form. The TikTok copyright infringement form is the notice TikTok accepts under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and TikTok's Intellectual Property Policy, in force since 26 April 2025, says TikTok may give the uploader the name of the copyright owner and will forward the uploader's appeal to the reporter. The fields and the counter-notice risk are covered in filing a TikTok copyright report.

TikTok received more than 400,000 intellectual property removal requests between January and June 2025, and removed 3.8 million items in response.TikTok Intellectual Property Removal Requests Report, January–June 2025.

Copies built on a creator's clips rarely stay on one platform. A scam account that reposts your videos on TikTok is often reposting them on X as well, where the notice has its own fields and limits, as a DMCA notice on X shows. A brand should file the trademark and copyright routes on each platform separately, because none of them shares reports with another.

Does reporting a TikTok scammer get your money back?

No. Reporting a TikTok scammer can get the account removed, but TikTok does not refund money paid outside TikTok Shop checkout or Gifts sent on LIVE. Money comes back, when it comes back at all, through a Shop refund request, a card chargeback or a bank fraud claim. Call the bank or card issuer the same day, then report to the FTC or the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center.

Knowing how to report TikTok scammers outside the app matters more than the TikTok report for anyone who paid. The order below puts the time-limited steps first.

  1. The bank or card issuer, the same day

Ask for a fraud claim or a chargeback and give the transaction ID. For gift cards, call the issuer printed on the card with the card numbers; some issuers can freeze an unspent balance.

  2. ReportFraud.ftc.gov, in the US

The FTC does not recover money for individuals, but its reports feed the Consumer Sentinel database that law enforcement uses, and the confirmation is a record some banks ask for.

  3. ic3.gov, for larger or crypto losses

The FBI's complaint centre takes investment, crypto and extortion cases. Keep the complaint number with the rest of the evidence.

  4. The other platforms in the chain

If the same scammer first contacted you on Facebook or ran the ad there, reporting the Facebook account puts a second platform's review on the same person.

The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center received more than 1 million complaints in 2025, with reported losses of $20.8 billion; investment fraud alone accounted for $8.6 billion.FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center, Internet Crime Report 2025.

The second scam comes after the report. People who post about losing money to a TikTok scammer are targeted by “recovery” accounts promising to get it back for a fee, including fake FBI profiles offering to update an IC3 report, which the FBI warned about on 20 July 2026. IC3 says it will never ask for payment to recover lost funds, and no TikTok report route charges a fee either.

How to report a TikTok scam that has already cost money is mostly a race against the bank's dispute window, which differs by card and country. How to report TikTok scam accounts that took nothing is simpler: report the profile, block it, and warn anyone the account has tagged.

Reputation repair after a fake profile scams your followers

When a fake profile has scammed people in your name, removal is only half the repair. Post a pinned warning from your real account naming the fake handle, report TikTok impersonation copies on every platform they reached, and once TikTok removes the copy, ask Google to drop the dead profile from its results with the Refresh Outdated Content tool.

Banner reading Off the app, still in search: the account run stops before the gate while the indexed copy runs on
Google keeps a stale result until it recrawls the URL; an outdated-content request asks for that recrawl and leaves pages that still load alone.

The pinned warning works while the review runs, because followers who see it stop paying the copy and can file reports of their own. TikTok's impersonation post of 30 September 2025 says verified badges, offered to eligible public figures, creators and brands, help audiences identify authentic accounts. A badge does not stop copies, but it gives followers one mark a copy cannot fake.

TikTok profiles are indexed by search engines, so a removed scam profile can keep appearing under your name until Google recrawls the page. Google's Refresh Outdated Content tool lets anyone ask for that recrawl once a page is gone or has changed. It does not remove pages that still load, so file it only after TikTok has acted.

Scam copies built from a TikTok profile often reuse the same photos elsewhere, and their giveaway comments turn up under Instagram posts too, where Instagram's comment report applies. Instagram's fake-account rules and Facebook's impostor form cover the copies on Meta's apps, and a Facebook copy already taking money in your name goes through the Facebook impersonation report. If the copy posted false claims about you, those posts can outlive the account, and removing defamatory content covers what can come down after the account is gone.

A scammer who turns to threats after being reported is a harassment case as well, handled the way tiered harassment reports are. Some copies threaten to publish private images, which is extortion; leaked content removal sets out the routes, including hash-matching services that block re-uploads. Victims of a fake shop sometimes leave reviews against the real brand it copied, and disputing those reviews is a separate job with its own evidence; a review left on the brand's Google listing falls under Google's own review-removal rules.

When a TikTok impersonation removal service is worth paying for

A TikTok impersonation removal service files the same free forms you can file yourself, because nobody outside TikTok can remove an account. Paying makes sense when copies keep returning under new handles, when a business needs trademark filings across several platforms, or when the scam has left search results and reviews to clean up. Anyone guaranteeing TikTok impersonation removal, or a deadline for it, is promising a decision only TikTok makes; the questions to ask first are in what a content removal service can and cannot do.

Frequently asked questions

How do I report a scammer on TikTok if they blocked me?

Use the profile link you saved before the block. TikTok's Report a problem web form accepts a link under Report a potential violation, so the report does not depend on seeing the profile in the app. A friend who has not been blocked can also report the profile from their own account under Fraud and scams.

Will a TikTok scammer know I reported them?

Not from TikTok. An in-app report does not name the person who filed it, and the reported account sees only the outcome. The exception is a copyright report: TikTok's Intellectual Property Policy says it may give the uploader the rights owner's name. A scammer can still guess from timing, so block the account once the report is in.

Can TikTok get my money back from a scammer?

Only for TikTok Shop orders paid through checkout, using the refund or return request on the order page. TikTok does not refund money sent outside the app, and its Virtual Items Policy says Gifts sent on LIVE are not refundable in any circumstances. For any other loss, call the bank or card issuer the same day.

How do I report a TikTok account that impersonates my business?

In the app, report the profile under Pretending to be someone; on TikTok's US impersonation webform, choose Brand or organization. If the copy uses your registered brand name or logo, the trademark report form usually carries more weight, because it rests on a registration TikTok can check rather than on how alike two profiles look.

How long does TikTok take to act on a scam report?

TikTok publishes no review time for user reports. Its enforcement report for January to March 2026 says 94.4% of removed videos came down within 24 hours, but that figure covers every removal, most of them found by TikTok's own systems. Impersonation webforms run slower; one creator who documented the US form reported waits of one to two weeks in 2025.

Is it worth reporting a TikTok scammer if I did not lose money?

Yes. A report on the account, and not only the post, can lead to a strike, and TikTok bans accounts whose strikes within one policy reach a threshold. Strikes expire after 90 days, so violations reported within the same few weeks add up, while ones spread over months may not. Report the profile, not only the video that reached you.

Scam copy still using your name?

Send the fake profile links, your real handle and what the copy has posted or collected. The review sets out which TikTok route is still open, what proof it needs, and which parts of the damage sit outside TikTok.
