How to report a fake account on TikTok and get the copy taken down

Short answer. How to report a fake account on TikTok: open the fake profile, tap the Share button at the top, tap Report, choose Report account, then Pretending to be someone, and pick Me or Celebrity. If a copy of you survives that report, file TikTok's impersonation webform with a photo of yourself holding your ID. Every route is free, and an in-app report does not name you to the account you report.

A fake TikTok account usually copies three things: a display name, a profile photo and a handful of reposted videos. The copy then follows the real account's audience, sends messages, or goes LIVE asking for gifts. An in-app report reaches a moderator in a few taps, but it carries only a reason and a link. A moderator comparing two near-identical profiles with nothing else to go on can pick the wrong one.

This guide covers how to report fake TikTok accounts from an iPhone, an Android phone and a browser, the two webforms that take ID, and the tests TikTok applies before it removes a copy. Form fields were read on TikTok's request page on 5 October 2026. When a copy has already been used to scam people, or returns under new handles after each removal, the case moves to casework under our content removal service.

TikTok removed 86,288,705 fake accounts in the first quarter of 2026, alongside 25,764,372 accounts it suspected belonged to children under 13.TikTok Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, January–March 2026.

How to report a fake account on TikTok from the app

How to report fake account on TikTok in the app takes five taps from the impostor's profile: the Share button at the top, Report, Report account, Pretending to be someone, then Me if the account copies you or Celebrity if it copies a public figure. For a public figure, TikTok then asks you to pick the real person's account. Submit, and the report enters review.

Banner reading Filed on the profile, judged as the account: how to report a fake account on TikTok from its profile
Moderators compare the reported profile with the real one; a report filed from a reposted clip asks only whether that clip breaks a rule.

Report the profile, not one of its videos. A report filed from a video is judged on that video, and a reposted clip of yours rarely breaks a rule on its own. A report filed from the profile is judged on the account, and impersonation is an account-level violation.

  1. Open the fake profile

Search the handle or tap the name on any of its videos to reach the profile page. Screenshot the profile before you do anything else, with the handle, photo and follower count visible.

  2. Tap Share, then Report

On a profile the Share button sits at the top of the screen, and Report is one of the options that opens beneath it. Copy the profile link from the same sheet first; every later form asks for it.

  3. Choose Report account, then Pretending to be someone

Report account ties the report to the profile. Pretending to be someone is TikTok's label for impersonation in the in-app menu.

  4. Pick Me or Celebrity

Me tells the reviewer the copy is of the person filing. Celebrity asks for the real account's username, so the reviewer can compare the copy against the original.

  5. Submit and keep the record

If the account is removed, the screenshot and the link are the only record left. If it is not, the webform in the third section below asks for both.

How to report a fake account on TikTok on iPhone

The iPhone and Android apps use the same menu labels, so the five steps above are also how to report a fake account on TikTok on iPhone. The difference is in the evidence. An iPhone screenshot of the profile drops into the Photos app with a date, and the profile link copied from the Share sheet can be pasted into Notes beside it, which gives you a dated pair to attach later.

How to report a fake TikTok account on phone without the app is a question about logins. The in-app report needs a signed-in TikTok account. TikTok's impersonation webforms open in any mobile browser, and the US request form loaded without a TikTok login when we checked it, so a person with no TikTok account can still file.

How to report a fake TikTok account online, from a browser

To report a fake TikTok account online, open the profile on tiktok.com while signed in, click the More options button (the three dots), choose Report, then Report account, then Pretending to be someone, pick Me or Celebrity and submit. The browser path files the same report as the app. Without a TikTok login, the impersonation webforms in the next section are the only online route.

How to report a fake TikTok page works the same way, because TikTok has no separate pages. A business, fan or brand presence is an ordinary account, so the report goes against its profile. A link to one video is the wrong target unless that video is the whole problem.

A computer is the better place to build the evidence file. Save the profile URL, which takes the form tiktok.com/@handle, and the URLs of any videos copied from the real account. Put the original and the copy side by side in one screenshot: same photo, same name, different handle and a later join date. A reviewer can read that pair in seconds.

Which TikTok form takes an impersonation report, and what does it ask for?

TikTok runs two impersonation webforms. For the United States, the request form at tiktok.com/legal/report/submit-requests takes the report and asks for a photo of you holding your ID and a statement signed under penalty of perjury. Outside the US, TikTok's Report a problem form takes it: Topic, Report a potential violation; Category, Account violation; Reason, Impersonation. Both forms are free.

Banner reading Filed by the one copied: the impersonated person's run seats the gate while a friend's run breaks short.
TikTok's US form accepts the person copied, a parent, guardian or lawyer acting for them, or a brand for itself; a friend's request ends at the dropdown.

The US form defines its target as an account that copies your identity "in order to mislead or confuse others on TikTok", and it covers two apps, TikTok and Lemon8. Knowing how to report a fake TikTok account through this form matters most once an in-app report has failed. The table lists what the form asked for when we opened it, in its own order, with the reporter choosing Me as the person impersonated.

Field on the US formWhat TikTok asksWhat to prepare

FilesUp to 10 files, 20MB each, PDF, PNG or JPEGSide-by-side screenshots of the original and the copy
Statement and signaturePenalty-of-perjury statement, typed nameOnly true statements; this is a legal declaration
Someone else is a dead end. Choosing "Someone else (e.g. a friend of mine)" on the US form ends the form with a note that TikTok acts only on reports from the person being impersonated or an authorised representative, such as a parent, legal guardian or lawyer. A friend can warn the victim and file an in-app report. The form itself has to come from the victim or their representative.

That rule decides who can report fake TikTok account copies through the webform at all, and it is the most common reason a well-meant report goes nowhere. A brand or organisation files under its own option, and a registered trademark used as a handle or logo has a separate trademark form at ipr.tiktokforbusiness.com, covered alongside copyright in our TikTok copyright report guide.

Searches for tiktok report fake account free usually come from someone who has met a paid offer first. TikTok charges nothing for the in-app report, the US request form or the Report a problem form. Paid help can organise evidence and take a case beyond TikTok; it cannot buy a different review queue, which is the honest limit of what a removal service does.

People in the US reported losing $3.5 billion to imposter scams in 2025, and imposter scams made up nearly one in three of all fraud reports the FTC received that year.Federal Trade Commission press release, 15 June 2026.

How to report a fake TikTok account anonymously

An in-app report is anonymous by default: TikTok does not tell the reported account who filed it, and there is no setting to switch on. The impersonation webform works differently. It hands TikTok your name, your ID and your real handle, and when the copy disappears, its owner can usually work out whose report did it.

The realistic way to report fake TikTok account anonymously is an in-app report from someone other than the person copied, such as a follower who spotted the clone. Pretending to be someone, then Celebrity, fits public figures. For a private person's copy, a bystander picks the reason that matches what the account does, such as a scam, spam or harassment reason, because the Me option would misstate who is filing.

Intellectual property reports are the exception that names you. TikTok's Intellectual Property Policy says TikTok may give the uploader the rights owner's name, and it forwards the uploader's appeal, contact details included, to the person who reported. If the fake account reposts your videos, a copyright report removes the copied clips one by one, at the cost of that anonymity.

Context undoes anonymity faster than any form. If the impostor is an ex-partner or a former colleague, and the copy disappears a day after you saw it, the timing tells them who reported it. Plan for that before filing: tighten your own privacy settings, and keep the evidence file in case the copy returns under a new handle.

How do you report fake TikTok live stream content?

To report fake TikTok live stream content while it is running, tap the Share arrow inside the stream, choose Report, and pick the reason that fits: Pretending to be someone for a copy of a creator, or a scam reason for fake giveaways and gift requests. Screen-record first. Once the stream ends, the evidence ends with it, apart from whatever TikTok kept.

Banner reading Replayed, not live: the dotted impersonation run stops short of the gate while the replay run seats it.
Streaming old clips as if live breaks TikTok's LIVE rules on its own, so a report has a ground that does not depend on proving who was copied.

Fake LIVEs come in two shapes. The first is a clone account that goes LIVE under a creator's name and photo, often replaying old clips, and asks viewers for gifts or for a message to claim a prize. The second is a real account streaming someone else's footage. TikTok's LIVE guidance treats pre-recorded or replayed content passed off as live as a breach in its own right, so a replayed stream can be reported for that even when the impersonation is hard to prove.

After the stream, report the account from its profile and keep the recording for the webform. LIVE also carries its own penalties. TikTok's strike system sets thresholds within individual features and names LIVE as one of them, so a host who keeps breaking LIVE rules can lose LIVE access before losing the account, the pattern explained in how TikTok's feature strikes work. Strikes expire after 90 days, according to TikTok's February 2023 announcement of the system.

Fake, fan or parody: when does fake TikTok account removal happen?

Fake TikTok account removal follows two rules in TikTok's Community Guidelines. An account that pretends to be someone else without stating that it is a fan or parody account in its display name breaks the impersonation rule. An account posing as a fake person or organisation to mislead people breaks the fake-account rule. A clearly labelled fan or parody account breaks neither, however unwelcome it is.

Banner reading Labelled copies stay up: the unlabelled run passes the gate; the labelled run turns out of the band before it.
The fan or parody label has to sit in the display name; the same words placed only in the bio do not meet TikTok's impersonation rule.

The label has to sit in the display name, not the bio. A copy named "Jane Doe (fan)" passes the test; a copy named "Jane Doe" with "fan page" buried in the bio does not. When a reviewer decides a reported account is a labelled fan account, the outcome is no action, which is why a report against one comes back as no violation found. The table matches what a copy does to the rule it breaks and the route that reaches it.

What the copy doesRule it breaksRoute that reaches it
Uses your name and photos, no fan or parody labelImpersonationIn-app: Pretending to be someone, Me; then the webform with ID
Uses a public figure's name, no labelImpersonationIn-app: Pretending to be someone, Celebrity
Labels itself fan or parody in the display nameNone, unless it harasses or scamsBlock it; report the specific harassing post

Posts false claims about you while posing as youImpersonation, possibly defamationWebform with ID; legal routes for the claims
Shares intimate images or a sexual deepfake of youNon-consensual intimate imageryTikTok's dedicated web form, not the impersonation route

The defamation row is where a removal stops being enough. An impostor who posted false statements in your name has created content that can outlive the account through screenshots and reposts, and the options for that content, from platform reports to court orders, are set out in our guide to defamation removal. A copy that exists only to torment someone is a harassment case as much as an impersonation case; Meta's tiered version of that rule is explained in Facebook's harassment report tiers.

The same copy rarely stays on one app. Instagram draws the impersonation line in almost the same place, and its fake-account rules for Instagram and Instagram's ID-backed impersonation form mirror the TikTok routes above. Facebook accepts impostor reports from people without an account, as the Facebook impostor form shows, and a broader Facebook account report covers copies that break other rules. X runs its own impersonation policy, set out in reporting an account on X.

Why a TikTok fake account report fails, and what to do next

A TikTok fake account report usually fails for one of three reasons: the wrong person filed it, the copy carries a fan or parody label in its display name, or the report went in from a video instead of the profile. TikTok publishes no review time for user reports. Re-filing the same in-app report adds nothing new; the webform with ID changes the evidence the reviewer holds.

Banner reading Same copy, new evidence: a first report breaks to dotted short of the gate; the re-filing turns up and passes.
A repeat of the same in-app report carries the same reason and link; the webform adds an ID photo that the copy cannot match.

Searches for tiktok fake account report reddit tend to come after a refusal, from people wondering whether to try again. One creator who documented the US form, Sabrina Ramonov, said in a June 2025 TikTok tutorial that her requests took one to two weeks to process. TikTok gives no figure of its own. The steps below show how to report a fake TikTok account a second time, in the order that changes the most for the least effort.

  1. Re-file from the profile, with the right option

Check that the report went against the account, under Pretending to be someone, with Me chosen by the person copied. A report from a bystander who chose Me is a misstatement, and a reviewer can see the mismatch.

  2. File the webform with ID

Use the US request form or the Report a problem form, list up to 10 copies per request, and attach side-by-side screenshots. The ID photo is what separates you from the copy, because the copy can show the same face but not the same document.

  3. Warn your audience from the real account

A pinned post naming the fake handle stops the copy from working while the review runs, and followers who see it can file in-app reports of their own. TikTok publishes no report-count threshold, and the factors that do end accounts are covered in what gets a TikTok account banned.

  4. Report the scam outside TikTok

If the copy took money, report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov in the US and to the police. Copies often move victims to Telegram for the payment step; reporting the Telegram account and Telegram's scam reporting routes cover that half of the chain.

  5. Escalate what TikTok will not remove

Threats sent from a fake account belong in an abuse report as well as an impersonation report; how abuse reports work explains where each kind goes. A copy that seeds complaints about a business on review sites is a separate job, covered in removing fake negative reviews.

Nearly 30% of people who lost money to scams in 2025 said the contact started on social media, where reported losses reached $2.1 billion; in September 2026 the FTC asked for public comment on whether to address platforms' role in impersonation scams.Federal Trade Commission press release, 24 September 2026.

That FTC notice concerns the impersonation of governments and businesses and the ad systems that spread it; it does not create a removal right for a private person whose TikTok has been copied. For an individual, the reports above and, where the copy causes real harm, a lawyer's letter or a court order remain the available tools. This is not legal advice.

When the impostor got your real account removed

The US request form has a second option, Appeal an Impersonation Account on TikTok, for an account its owner believes was "incorrectly banned for impersonation". It is the route when a clone reports the original first and wins. File it with the same ID, your earliest upload dates and the copy's later join date. If the login itself was taken rather than the account banned, the case is account recovery, not impersonation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I report a fake TikTok account that is not impersonating me?

Yes, in the app. Report the profile under Pretending to be someone and choose Celebrity if it copies a public figure, or pick the scam, spam or harassment reason that matches what the account does. TikTok's US impersonation webform is different: it acts only on reports from the person being impersonated or an authorised representative such as a parent or lawyer.

Is it free to report a fake account on TikTok?

Yes. TikTok charges nothing for the in-app report, the US impersonation request form or the Report a problem form used outside the US. Anyone charging a fee to file one of these reports is charging for a form you can file yourself; paid help is worth it only for evidence work or routes beyond TikTok.

Can I report fake TikTok account online without the app?

Yes. Signed in on tiktok.com, use the More options button on the profile, then Report, Report account and Pretending to be someone. Without a TikTok login, use TikTok's impersonation webforms, which open in any browser: the request form for the United States, or the Report a problem form elsewhere.

How long does TikTok take to remove a fake account?

TikTok publishes no review time for user reports or impersonation requests. One creator who documented the US form reported waits of one to two weeks in June 2025. A report that comes back as no violation found does not reopen on its own, so the next step is the webform with ID, not a repeat of the same in-app report.

Will the fake account know I reported it?

Not from TikTok. An in-app report is anonymous and TikTok does not tell the reported account who filed it. Context can still reveal you: when a copy of you disappears soon after you found it, its owner can guess. Copyright reports are the exception, because TikTok's policy says it may share the rights owner's name.

What if TikTok says the fake account does not break its rules?

Check the display name first. An account labelled fan or parody there is allowed. If it carries no label, re-file from the profile, then file the impersonation webform with a photo of you holding your ID and side-by-side screenshots. If the copy took money or posted false claims, report it outside TikTok as well.

Fake account still up after the report?

Send the copy's profile links, your real handle and TikTok's replies. The review sets out which route is still open, what proof it needs, and what TikTok can and cannot be made to remove.
