How to report a TikTok account or video, and what each report can reach

Short answer. How to report a TikTok account: open the profile, tap the three dots or the Share arrow, choose Report and pick the reason that matches what the account did. For one clip, press and hold the video or tap Share, then Report. TikTok checks the item against that one rule and can remove it, take away a feature such as LIVE, or ban the account. The account is not told who filed an ordinary report.

Knowing how to report a video on TikTok, or a whole account, is the easy part; the menu takes seconds. The harder part is that a TikTok report is a claim against one named rule, and the reason you pick decides what the reviewer is allowed to do. A harassing comment filed as spam can pass a spam check and stay up, and a stolen clip filed as harassment gets judged on the wrong rule. Where the in-app report cannot reach, the work moves to formal content removal: rights-based forms, legal notices and search results.

TikTok removed 184,012,576 videos worldwide between January and March 2026, about 0.5% of everything uploaded, and found 99.3% of them before any user reported them.TikTok Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, Q1 2026, as reported by The Nation, 8 July 2026.

How to report a TikTok account

The full path for how to report a TikTok account in the app: open the profile, tap the three dots at the top right (the Share arrow on some app versions), choose Report, then Report account, pick the reason and submit. On a computer the same menu sits behind the three dots on the profile page. A report filed from the profile asks TikTok to judge the account’s behavior as a whole, not one post.

Two menus, two reviews: how to report a TikTok account, the profile run crossing the gate as the video run turns away.
Compare where each run ends: only the profile report puts the account itself in front of a reviewer.

The choice of menu matters more than it looks. A TikTok account report suits a fake profile, an impersonator, a spam bot or someone whose posts break the rules again and again. A single abusive clip belongs in that clip’s own menu, because a report filed there ties the reviewer to the clip itself.

  1. Save the profile first

Copy the profile link, which ends in the @handle, and screenshot the bio and the posts that show the problem. An account that is banned or deleted after you report it leaves nothing for a later web form, a lawyer or the police.

  2. Open Report from the profile

Tap the three dots or the Share arrow, then Report, then Report account. TikTok’s account menu separates inappropriate content, pretending to be someone else, an account that may belong to a child under 13, and other problems.

  3. Pick the closest reason, not the strongest

The reason is the policy the account is measured against. An impersonation report also asks who is being impersonated: you, someone you represent, or a public figure.

  4. Point at the evidence

Where the flow offers a text field or asks for examples, name the posts that break the rule. A reviewer sees a pattern only when the report shows one.

  5. Block after you report

Blocking first hides the account’s posts from you, which makes any further report harder to file.

How to report a TikTok account without the app

TikTok’s web forms reach the same review teams without a login. The Report a problem form takes a link and a description, and the separate intellectual property, privacy and impersonation forms ask for proof that the claim is yours. Parents, teachers and lawyers who need to report TikTok account problems on someone else’s behalf usually end up here, because the in-app button only ever reports as you.

How to report a bot account on TikTok

Searches for “report TikTok account bot” mix two different things. The first is a bot account: a profile that spams links, mass-follows or reposts other people’s videos. Report it from the profile under spam or fake engagement, since a bot’s violation is a pattern across many posts rather than any one of them.

The second is software that files reports for you. Automated and coordinated reporting breaks TikTok’s integrity and authenticity rules, and it adds nothing a single accurate report does not, because the review measures the item against the rule rather than counting the people who flagged it.

TikTok removed 86,288,705 fake accounts, and 25,764,372 accounts it suspected belonged to children under 13, in the first quarter of 2026.TikTok Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, Q1 2026.

How to report a video on TikTok

How to report a video on TikTok: press and hold the video until a menu appears, or tap the Share arrow on the right, then tap Report, choose the reason and submit. In a browser, open the video, click the three dots beside it and choose Report. The report ties the review to that one video, so report the clip that shows the problem most plainly.

The route is the same whether you look up how to report a TikTok video in the app or how to report TikTok video content from a laptop. What changes the outcome is the reason, because TikTok can do more than one thing to a reported video short of deleting it.

Reason you pickWhat the reviewer checksWhat can happen to the video
Harassment and bullyingWhether it targets a specific person with insults, threats or degradationRemoval, and a strike toward the account’s harassment threshold
Hate speechWhether it attacks people for a protected attributeRemoval; hateful behavior carries a stricter ban threshold
Frauds and scamsWhether it asks for money, logins or off-platform payment under false pretensesRemoval; serious fraud can end the account
MisinformationWhether a claim is false and harmful, or still unverifiedRemoval, or the video stays up but loses For You feed eligibility
Dangerous activitiesWhether it shows or encourages acts likely to cause injuryRemoval, an age restriction, or loss of For You feed eligibility
Intellectual propertyWhether you own what the video uses; completed on TikTok’s IP formRemoval; the uploader may be given your name

The middle outcome is the one most reporters miss. A video made ineligible for the For You feed is still on the account and still shareable by link; it is simply no longer recommended to strangers. For a clip about you, that can remove most of the harm without a deletion.

How to report a TikTok video and get it deleted

No report guarantees a deletion, but three choices raise the odds. How to report a TikTok video and get it deleted comes down to the correct rule, the specific video rather than the account, and a rights-based form when the clip uses your face, your work or your private details, since those forms do not depend on a guideline breach at all.

People who search “report video on TikTok” usually want to know how long the wait is. TikTok publishes no review time for user reports. The one speed it does publish is for its own detection: 94.4% of the violating content it removed in the first quarter of 2026 came down within 24 hours. A copyright claim behaves much the same on every platform, including the name that travels with it, the trade-off explained in removing a single YouTube video.

How to report a TikTok live, and whether it is anonymous

How to report a TikTok live: while the LIVE is playing, tap the Share arrow, choose Report, pick the reason and submit. To report a viewer rather than the host, tap their name in the chat and choose Report; to report one LIVE comment, press and hold it. Outside the stream, press and hold the LIVE preview in your For You feed.

Saved before it ends: the stream run stops dead short of the gate, while a recording entering from below passes through.
The host's handle and the time on screen matter as much as the clip; a recording without them is hard to tie to one account.

The steps for how to report a live on TikTok are short because a LIVE is short. The difficulty is evidence: once the stream ends, a report can point only at what TikTok kept and what you captured. Screen-record the part that breaks the rule and screenshot the host’s handle with the time visible, before you report. The same disappearing-evidence problem runs through Snapchat’s delete clock.

How to report someone on TikTok live also depends on their role. A host is judged on the stream, a viewer on what they wrote in the chat. LIVE is counted separately as well: TikTok’s strike system sets thresholds within a product feature, and LIVE is one of the features it names, so a host who keeps breaking LIVE rules can lose LIVE access before losing the account.

How to report a TikTok live anonymously

There is no setting to change if you want to know how to report a TikTok live anonymously: every in-app report is anonymous by default, and TikTok does not tell the host or the viewer who filed it. The exception is a rights claim. TikTok’s intellectual property policy says it may give the account holder the rights owner’s name, email address and the details of the complaint.

Context can undo what the policy protects. If you were one of five viewers, argued with the host in the chat, and the stream was cut minutes later, the host can work out the rest. Instagram draws the same line between reports and claims, set out in who Instagram tells after a report, and X goes further with copyright by forwarding the full notice, as reporting a post on X explains.

How to report a TikTok comment

How to report a TikTok comment: open the comments, press and hold the comment, tap Report, pick the reason and submit. To report a comment on TikTok under your own video, press and hold it and tap Manage multiple comments instead; you can then select up to 100 comments, or the accounts behind them, and report, delete or block them in one pass.

The bulk tool works only on your own posts. Under someone else’s video, each comment is reported one at a time and judged on its own text, which is why a string of borderline replies can each pass while the pile-on as a whole plainly does not. Comments are a counted feature too: an account that keeps breaking comment rules can lose the ability to comment before it loses anything else.

TikTok introduced its bulk comment tools in May 2021, letting creators select up to 100 comments or accounts at once to delete, report or block, first in six markets and then worldwide.TechCrunch, “TikTok rolls out tools to bulk delete and report comments, block users,” 20 May 2021.

A comment report works the way reporting one Instagram comment does. The text is reviewed, not the person who wrote it, so the comment that shows the rule break most plainly is the one to report first.

Which reason fits: harassment, impersonation, bots or IP?

Match the problem to its route before you file. Rule breaks anyone can see, such as harassment, hate, scams or dangerous acts, go through the Report button. Claims that rest on your rights or your identity, such as a stolen video, a fake account using your name, or your home address in a post, go through TikTok’s web forms, which ask for proof and may pass your name on.

Filing a TikTok harassment report that shows a pattern

A TikTok harassment report is judged item by item, so one report on one mild comment rarely moves anything. Report the several items that show the pattern, meaning the videos, the comments and the account, each under harassment and bullying, and name the target when the flow asks. TikTok’s bullying policy covers content that degrades or mocks a specific person, coordinated abuse, and posting someone’s personal information to harm them.

46% of U.S. teens aged 13 to 17 say they have experienced at least one of six cyberbullying behaviors, with offensive name-calling the most common at 32%.Pew Research Center, “Teens and Cyberbullying 2022,” December 2022.

Before you report TikTok video content that targets you, save it, because a harasser who expects a strike often deletes first. Safety and civility violations, the policy area that holds harassment and bullying, made up 12.6% of the videos TikTok removed in the first quarter of 2026.

Impersonation and other rights-based claims

For a profile using your name or photos, how to report a TikTok account depends on whose identity it borrows. The in-app report under pretending to be someone works for anyone; when the person impersonated is you, TikTok’s impersonation form also lets you upload photo ID and list every fake account in one submission. The same identity check sits behind Instagram’s ID-checked impersonation route, and standing decides most business cases on other platforms too, as with LinkedIn account takedowns and the outsider routes against a Facebook Page.

TikTok scammer report: email, number or online form?

A TikTok scammer report goes through the app: open the account, video or message, tap Report and choose frauds and scams. TikTok publishes no scam-report phone number and no public email address for reports; it answers in your Inbox and, for web forms, by email. If money was lost, report it outside TikTok too, to the FTC and to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.

Removal inside, loss outside: one run passes the gate, one turns out of the band before it, and a dotted run stops short.
The FTC takes loss reports online or on 1-877-382-4357; the FBI's IC3 accepts complaints online only.

The three versions of the search each map onto a real channel, just not a TikTok one.

  • Email. A search for a TikTok scammer report email finds no official inbox to send a scammer’s handle to. TikTok’s web forms confirm by email, and anyone who writes first offering to recover your account or remove the scammer for a fee is not TikTok.
  • Phone. The TikTok scammer report number people look for does not exist; TikTok runs no public phone line for reports or bans. The number that matters is the FTC’s Consumer Response Center, 1-877-382-4357.
  • Online. A TikTok scammer report online starts in the app, then continues at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and at ic3.gov, which takes complaints online only. The UK equivalent is Action Fraud, Canada’s is the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, and Australia’s is Scamwatch.

The search for a phone number is itself a scam route. Pages and comments listing a “TikTok support number” send callers to people who ask for login codes or a fee to restore an account, and in August 2026 Malwarebytes documented phishing pages copying TikTok’s login and verification screens. Fake copyright-violation messages work the same trick on other apps, as the fake Instagram copyright notices show. Screenshot the payment request, the handle and the profile link, then report the account before you block it: a banned scam account takes its messages with it.

Americans reported losing $2.1 billion in 2025 to scams that started on social media, about eight times the 2020 figure, and nearly 30% of people who reported losing money to a scam said it began there.Federal Trade Commission, Data Spotlight, April 2026.

What happens after a TikTok account report?

After a TikTok account report, automated systems or a moderator check the account against the rule you named. The review ends in one of five places: no violation, the content removed, a video made ineligible for the For You feed, a feature such as LIVE or comments taken away, or a ban. You get an update in your Inbox. The account learns of any action, never your name.

Counted per feature: the account run passes the gate while the feature run stops dead at an open aperture beside it.
Strikes leave an account's record after 90 days, so a threshold is only reached by violations close together in time.

Enforcement runs on strikes, not report counts. Each confirmed violation adds a strike, strikes expire from the account’s record after 90 days, and an account that reaches the threshold within one feature or one policy loses that feature or is banned. Thresholds are stricter for more harmful policies, and TikTok does not publish the numbers.

TikTok issues a permanent ban on the first strike for severe violations, including promoting or threatening violence, child sexual abuse material, and showing real-world violence or torture.TikTok Newsroom, “Supporting creators with an updated account enforcement system,” 2 February 2023.

That ladder is public in outline but not in numbers. Facebook’s published strike tiers and YouTube’s three-strike channel rule can be counted from outside; TikTok’s thresholds cannot. Instagram’s review ends in yet another set of outcomes, laid out in the six results of an Instagram report.

When is a permanently banned TikTok account final?

A permanently banned TikTok account can still log in to appeal, and the notice announcing the ban carries the appeal route. If the appeal fails, TikTok treats the ban as final, and a new account opened to get around it can be removed for ban evasion. The account holder’s best record is the Account status page, which lists the violations TikTok has on file.

If your own account went down after a wave of false reports, the order is the in-app appeal first, then account recovery casework if the appeal is refused for a reason that does not fit what you posted.

Why do TikTok videos keep getting taken down?

TikTok videos keep getting taken down mostly because automated detection flags them on upload, often before anyone has reported them, and because an account that already carries strikes in one policy has less room for the next borderline clip. If your TikTok video got taken down, the notice in your Inbox names the rule and carries an Appeal option; use it when the rule does not fit the video.

Removed, then reviewed again: the upload run stops at the gate, and an appeal run entering from above passes through.
An appeal that succeeds restores the video and also removes the strike that came with the removal.

Appeals succeed often enough to be worth filing. In the first quarter of 2026 TikTok reinstated 8,838,710 videos after further review, set against the 184,012,576 it removed.

About 4.8% of the videos TikTok removed in early 2026, roughly one in 21, were later restored.Calculated by Clearline from TikTok’s Q1 2026 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report: 8,838,710 reinstated, 184,012,576 removed. Not every removal is appealed, so this is a ratio, not an appeal success rate.

A search for “video taken down TikTok” after a copyright claim needs a different answer. A copyright removal comes back through a counter-notice to TikTok’s intellectual property team rather than a Community Guidelines appeal, and the rights owner is told that you filed one.

Can you see TikToks that were taken down?

TikToks that were taken down usually stay viewable to their creator from the violation notice, but not to anyone else, and TikTok keeps no public archive of removed videos. Lists of TikToks that got taken down therefore rely on news coverage. In November 2019 TikTok removed a video by U.S. teenager Feroza Aziz about the detention of Uyghurs in China, then restored it and blamed a human moderation error.

For TikTok videos that were taken down from your own account, the Account status page is the record to keep. Screenshot it before you appeal, because it shows the rule each removal cited and the appeal will be judged against that rule.

Was TikTok taken down, and is a US ban still coming?

Was TikTok taken down? Once, briefly. TikTok went dark for U.S. users around 9 p.m. Eastern on 18 January 2025, as the divest-or-ban law took effect, and returned about 13 hours later. As of September 2026 there is no date on which TikTok is going to be taken down, because the sale the law required closed in January 2026.

People still ask when is TikTok being taken down, or when are they going to take down TikTok, because the deadline moved so often in 2025. The law, upheld by the Supreme Court in January 2025, barred app stores and hosting providers from serving TikTok unless ByteDance gave up control, and its enforcement was postponed by executive order until a sale closed.

On 22 January 2026 TikTok announced TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC: Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX hold 15% each, affiliates of existing ByteDance investors 30.1%, and ByteDance 19.9%.TikTok Newsroom, “Announcement from the new TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC,” January 2026.

For anyone filing a report, little changed: the Report button, the Community Guidelines and the appeal route work as before, and the joint venture’s safeguards cover content moderation for U.S. users. A forecast of when is TikTok going to be taken down again is a guess, since the condition the law set has been met.

When reporting a TikTok account does not work

Reporting a TikTok account fails when the account breaks no rule TikTok enforces: rudeness short of harassment, criticism, a true statement, a lawful photo. It also fails when the report names the wrong rule, when the content is deleted before review, or when the claim needs a rights form the reporter has no standing to file. The in-app Report menu has no defamation reason at all.

  • No violation on a real problem. Refile on a different item or under the correct rule, with the items that show a pattern. A repeat of the same report on the same video adds nothing.
  • A false statement about you. TikTok takes reports of content that is illegal under local law, such as defamation, through a separate illegal content form. A lawyer’s letter or a court order is the stronger route.
  • The account holder has died. A report cannot remove an account for that reason; families make a request with proof of death and authority, the process set out for a deceased person’s Facebook account.
  • Gone from TikTok, still in Google. A removed video can linger in search snippets and on repost sites. That is search work, not a report.

Paid help has the same ceiling as the button. A service can prepare the evidence and file the forms you have standing for, but it cannot decide TikTok’s review, the limit examined for TikTok content removal services, for Instagram account removal services and for removal services on X.

Not legal advice. In the U.S. a copyright notice is made under penalty of perjury, and a knowingly false claim can create liability. Harassment, fraud and defamation cases turn on jurisdiction and proof. Speak to a lawyer before filing where the case depends on falsity or ownership.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone see if you reported them on TikTok?

No. TikTok does not tell the reported account who filed a report or how many reports there were, and that holds for LIVE, comment and message reports too. The exception is an intellectual property claim: TikTok may give the account holder the rights owner's name, email address and the details of the complaint.

How many reports does it take to get a TikTok account banned?

There is no number. TikTok bans on strikes, not report counts: strikes expire after 90 days, thresholds differ by policy and by feature, and severe violations bring a ban on the first strike. Duplicate reports on the same video or comment add nothing the first report did not already show.

Can you undo a report on TikTok?

TikTok offers no way to withdraw an ordinary report once it is submitted. If the video, comment or account breaks no rule, the review closes with no action and the account is never told. A report filed by mistake does not create a strike on its own, because strikes follow only from a confirmed violation.

Does TikTok tell you the result of a report?

Usually. TikTok sends updates on a report to your Inbox and keeps a history of the reports you filed in the app's settings. Results of web-form reports, such as intellectual property or privacy claims, arrive by email, sometimes after a request for more information.

Can you report a TikTok account without having TikTok?

Yes. How to report a TikTok account without having TikTok comes down to its web forms: the Report a problem form takes a link and a description, and the intellectual property, privacy and impersonation forms ask for proof that the claim is yours. The in-app Report button needs a logged-in account.

Reported it and TikTok found no violation?

Send the link and what TikTok told you. The reply names the route that fits the case, what it asks you to prove, and whether the video also needs work in search results.
