How to delete someone else's TikTok account and what you can take down yourself

Short answer. How to delete someone else's TikTok account: you cannot. Deletion works only inside the owner's logged-in session, and TikTok confirms it with a code sent to the owner's phone or email. What you can do is report the account or its videos, and TikTok removes them when they break a written rule. Your own content is different: how to take down a TikTok story, post or repost you made is a few taps in its menu.

Most searches for this topic mix two jobs that TikTok treats in opposite ways. Removing your own story, video or repost is a self-service button that works instantly and needs no reason. Removing someone else's content is a request that TikTok reviews against its Community Guidelines, and the request fails if the content breaks no rule, however unwelcome it is.

This guide sorts every common takedown request by whose content it is, then gives the exact route, the proof each route needs and the point where it stops working. Menu labels were checked against TikTok's own help and newsroom pages on 10 October 2026; TikTok renames buttons between app versions, so a label may read slightly differently on your screen. When a video or account keeps returning, or the damage has spread to search results, the work moves into our content removal casework.

TikTok removed about 0.5% of all videos uploaded between January and March 2026. Sensitive and mature themes made up 18.6% of removals, dangerous activities and challenges 16.5%, and safety and civility breaches 12.6%.TikTok Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, Q1 2026, as reported by ARY News and The Annapurna Express, July 2026.

How to delete someone else's TikTok account: why the button is not yours

No route lets one user delete another user's TikTok account. The Delete account control sits under Settings and privacy, then Account, inside the owner's own session, and TikTok sends a verification code to the phone number or email on that account before it acts. Anyone else can only report the account, and only TikTok's moderators decide whether it comes down.

Banner reading Only the owner can delete, for how to delete someone else's TikTok account: the outside run stops short
The delete control sits inside the owner's session and waits for a code sent to the owner's phone or email; a report enters through a different door.

Logging in with someone else's password to press the button yourself is unauthorized access in most countries, whatever the account has posted. Services that offer to "delete any TikTok account" for a fee are either selling that kind of access or selling mass reports, and neither works the way the sales page says. Instagram gives the same answer to anyone asking it to remove another person's profile, which is why an Instagram takedown request also runs through a rule, not through a delete button.

How to delete someone else's TikTok account therefore depends on which row of this table you are in. Only the first two rows are buttons; every other row is a request that TikTok can refuse.

What you want goneWhose it isRouteWho decides
Story, post or videoYoursDelete from the item's menuYou, instantly

The same split applies to how to delete someone's TikTok account when the person is a partner, a former friend or a child: the owner, or a parent who knows the login, can press delete; everyone else files a report. A parent of a child under 13 has a stronger case, because TikTok removes under-13 accounts on its own rules once it is shown the age.

TikTok removed 25,764,372 accounts suspected of belonging to children under 13 in the first quarter of 2026, alongside 86,288,705 fake accounts.TikTok Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, Q1 2026, as reported by Capital FM and B360 Nepal, July 2026.

How to take down a TikTok story

How to take down a TikTok story you posted: open your profile, tap your photo where the story ring shows, tap the three-dot menu (on some versions the share arrow) on the story, and choose Delete. TikTok asks for a confirmation and the story disappears at once. A story you leave alone expires by itself 24 hours after posting, so a deleted story and an expired one look the same to viewers.

Banner reading Stories expire on their own: one run ends at the gate while a subordinate run passes through
Delete a story early and it vanishes at once; leave it and it lapses after 24 hours. Viewers cannot tell which happened.

That answers both how do I take down a story on TikTok and how do I take down a TikTok story for your own account. Treat deletion as final and save a copy first if you might want the story later. If you only want fewer people to see it, the story privacy setting limits it to friends without deleting anything.

How to take down a story on TikTok that someone else posted is a different question. Their story carries a Report option in the same menu, and the report goes through the same review as any video. The 24-hour clock matters here: a story often expires before review finishes, so take a screenshot showing the account name and time before you report. That screenshot is the only record left once the story is gone, and you will need it if the same person keeps posting about you.

Story reports are a race against the clock. How to take down a TikTok story someone else posted is mostly a question of timing, because stories expire within a day, the practical goal of reporting one is a strike on the account, not removal of that story. Report the account as well, and keep the screenshots dated in one folder.

How do you take down a repost on TikTok?

To take down a repost on TikTok, open the video from the Reposts tab on your profile, tap the share arrow on the right and choose Remove repost. The repost leaves your tab and stops reaching your followers, while the original stays live on the creator's account. Removing a repost never deletes anyone's video; only the creator or TikTok can do that.

Banner reading A repost points to the original: a dotted run turns up and joins the solid run before the gate
Removing a repost clears your Reposts tab only; deleting the original clears every repost of it at once.

How to take down all reposts on TikTok has no built-in answer: TikTok offers no bulk remove, so each one is removed by hand from the Reposts tab. Browser extensions that promise to clear every repost at once ask for access to your logged-in session, and that is a poor trade for a few minutes of tapping. Work from the newest repost down, because the tab reloads after each removal.

How to take down a reposted video on TikTok when the video is yours and someone else reposted it works another way. A repost points to your original, so deleting your original removes it from every Reposts tab at once. A copy re-uploaded under another account is not a repost but a new video, and it comes down only through a TikTok copyright report filed by the rights owner. That covers how to take down a TikTok repost in each direction.

How do you take down a TikTok video you posted?

How do you take down a TikTok video you posted: open the video from your profile, tap the three-dot menu or the share arrow, scroll the bottom row and choose Delete, then confirm. The same steps answer how to take down a TikTok post, how to take down a post on TikTok and how to take down a video on TikTok, because photo posts and videos share one menu. Changing the video to Only me hides it without deleting it.

How to take down a TikTok in full, meaning every trace, takes more than one tap. Downloads, duets and stitches made before deletion stay on other people's phones and accounts, and a stitch keeps its own copy of your clip. If a duet or stitch shows you in a way you did not agree to, report it as a privacy or harassment issue, not as a copyright one. A copyright claim names you to the other side, which you may not want in a harassment case.

So how do you take down a video on TikTok that is still circulating as a re-upload on other platforms? Each copy needs its own request on its own platform. A clip copied to YouTube goes through YouTube's process, covered in our guide on getting a YouTube video taken down, and a clip shared to a Facebook Page runs through Facebook's Page takedown routes.

How to get someone's video taken down on TikTok

To get someone's video taken down on TikTok, press and hold the video, or tap the share arrow, then Report, and pick the reason that matches a written rule: harassment and bullying, hate, nudity, violence, frauds and scams, privacy, or intellectual property. TikTok reviews the video against that rule. A report that names the wrong reason is the most common reason a valid complaint is refused.

How to get a video taken down on TikTok is mostly a question of matching the evidence to the reason. A video showing your address belongs under privacy; a video using your song or footage belongs in the copyright form; a fake giveaway belongs under frauds and scams, and our guide to reporting a TikTok scammer covers the money side. A video that is merely critical of you rarely breaks a rule, and reporting it many times does not change that.

"Action is taken based on violations of our rules, not the number of reports." TikTok added that fewer than 5% of removed videos were restored on appeal between October and December 2025.TikTok's response to the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre, 1 April 2026.

That statement is why mass-report services fail on content that breaks no rule, a pattern our breakdown of the TikTok report bot market traces in detail. To get a TikTok video taken down, one accurate report with a timestamp beats fifty vague ones. If the video sits under a harassing comment thread, report the comments separately; Instagram works the same way, and its comment report flow shows why a comment is judged on its own.

How to get an account taken down on TikTok

To get an account taken down on TikTok, report the account itself, not only its videos: open the profile, tap the share arrow, then Report and Report account, and choose the reason. TikTok bans an account after repeated violations or one severe one, so the account-level report and the video-level reports add up. A single unpleasant video almost never removes a whole account, and an account-level report is the closest TikTok comes to an answer for how to delete someone else's TikTok account.

Banner reading Rules, not report counts: two dotted runs stop short of the gate while one solid run passes
Duplicate reports stop at the same gate; the account-level report that names the broken rule is the one that reaches review.

How to take down a TikTok account that is pretending to be you uses the impersonation route instead. In the app it sits under Report account, then Pretending to be someone; in the US there is also a webform that accepts up to 10 profile links and asks for a photo of you holding a government ID. Choosing "Someone else" on that form ends it, because TikTok acts only for the person or an authorized representative. Our walkthrough on how to report a fake TikTok account covers every field, and the Instagram equivalent sits in our fake Instagram account guide.

How to get a TikTok page taken down for a business works the same way, with Brand or organization chosen on the form and a trademark report as the stronger option where the name is registered. Strikes are the mechanism that turns individual reports into a ban, and our explainer on how TikTok strikes lead to a ban sets out the thresholds. For shop sellers, bots and duet abuse there is a separate guide on how to get someone's TikTok banned.

TikTok strikes expire after 90 days. When TikTok redesigned its enforcement system, it said almost 90% of violators kept using the same feature to break the rules and over 75% kept breaking the same policy.TikTok Newsroom, "Supporting creators with an updated account enforcement system", 2 February 2023.

Where the account route stops. An account that posts lawful but hurtful content stays up, and TikTok's Terms of Service forbid reports that are "clearly unfounded". Reporting through a network of friends does not count as extra evidence. If the account is defaming you, the remedy is legal, outside TikTok's report menu.

How to get an old TikTok account taken down

To get an old TikTok account taken down, recover access first: try every login method you ever used, including the old phone number, email, and Google, Apple or Facebook sign-in, then delete it from Settings and privacy, Account. If none works, use Report a problem in the app or on TikTok's support site and prove ownership with the old username, email and approximate creation date.

Banner reading Recover first, then delete: one run turns down a step and stops dead at the gate
Support requests without a working login are slow and not guaranteed; any old phone number or email that still receives codes is the faster route.

Support requests for lost accounts are slow and not guaranteed, because TikTok has to rule out someone trying to delete an account that is not theirs. Third-party sites offering to "delete a TikTok account without logging in" either cannot do it or harvest the details you type in. An old account that copies or misleads people in your name has a faster route: report it as impersonation, which needs your ID rather than the lost password.

For an account belonging to someone who has died, TikTok offers no memorial status. The VOLS guide to how platforms handle deceased users' accounts says TikTok deletes such an account on request to its privacy support from verified family or a legal representative, with a death certificate and proof of relationship or authority. Facebook handles the same situation differently, as our guide to removing a deceased person's Facebook profile shows.

How to see taken down TikToks

How to see taken down TikToks from your own account: open Settings and privacy, then Account, then Account status. TikTok introduced that page in 2023 to list the content removed from your account, the rule each item broke, any active strikes and the appeal button. Removed videos stay listed there while an appeal is possible, but they do not play publicly.

For someone else's video you reported, TikTok does not publish a list of removals. The cleanest test is to open the saved link while logged out: "Video currently unavailable" means it is gone or set to private, without saying which. Videos reinstated after review come back at the same link.

TikTok reinstated 8,838,710 removed videos after a second review in the first quarter of 2026, and 94.4% of the videos it removed came down within 24 hours of upload.TikTok Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, Q1 2026, as reported by ARY News, July 2026.

How to not get your video taken down on TikTok

How to not get your video taken down on TikTok: check the video against the Community Guidelines before posting, keep music within TikTok's licensed library, and use Content Check Lite in TikTok Studio on the web, which TikTok launched on 30 July 2025 to flag videos likely to be ineligible for the For You feed before they go live. Ineligible is a lighter outcome than removal, but it signals the same rules.

How to make TikTok not take down your video after it is flagged comes down to the appeal: Account status shows the rule cited, and an appeal works when you can show context the reviewer missed, such as a news or educational purpose. How to post a TikTok without it getting taken down is mostly about the categories that cause most removals: dangerous stunts, sexualised framing, graphic injury and edited or AI-generated media that is not labelled.

After TikTok introduced a similar video pre-check for TikTok Shop sellers, low-quality uploads fell by 27%, the company said when announcing Content Check Lite.Adam Presser, TikTok Newsroom, "New tools to protect and support creators", 30 July 2025.

How to not get your TikTok taken down as a whole account depends on the strike count. Strikes in the same policy add up fastest, so a creator who has had two videos removed for the same reason should change that type of content, not only the next video. Reports against you from rivals do not count unless the video breaks a rule.

Has TikTok been taken down in the US?

No. TikTok has not been taken down in the US. The app went dark for about 12 hours from the night of 18 January 2025, as the divest-or-ban law took effect, and was back online on 19 January. On 23 January 2026 TikTok announced TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, a majority American-owned company that now runs the US app, under an executive order signed on 25 September 2025.

That is the full answer to did TikTok get taken down and are they going to take down TikTok: the ban threat ended with the joint venture, and no shutdown is scheduled. The questions are still searched because a "TikTok takedown" headline from 2025 keeps circulating. For anyone filing reports, one detail matters: the joint venture now holds decision-making authority over US trust and safety policies and content moderation, so US reports are reviewed under its rules.

Silver Lake, Oracle and MGX each hold 15% of the joint venture and ByteDance keeps 19.9%. The venture serves more than 200 million Americans and 7.5 million businesses.TikTok Newsroom, "Announcement from the new TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC", 23 January 2026.

When a TikTok takedown needs work outside TikTok

A TikTok takedown that keeps failing usually fails for one of three reasons: the content breaks no written rule, the account returns under a new handle, or the same material sits on other platforms and in search results. The first two call for better evidence or a legal route; the third needs a request on each platform where the copies are hosted.

The same person often runs copies elsewhere. An account that harasses you on TikTok may also post on Snapchat, X or LinkedIn, each with its own process, covered in our guides to Snapchat account takedowns, taking down an X account and LinkedIn profile removal. Facebook copies need a separate report too, set out in our walkthrough on how to take down a Facebook account.

When the account sends viewers to a fake login page, a phishing takedown at the host removes the page itself, which no TikTok report can do. When the damage has reached review sites, fake review removal is its own process. If you are weighing a paid service for the TikTok side, read what to check in a TikTok removal service first, and see our guide on how to get a TikTok taken down quickly for the time each route takes.

US consumers reported losing $3.5 billion to imposter scams in 2025, nearly one in three fraud reports.Federal Trade Commission, press release of 15 June 2026.

No service, including ours, can delete a TikTok account or force a decision on a report; only TikTok decides. A seller who claims to know how to delete someone else's TikTok account on request is selling login access or mass reports. What casework adds is the evidence file, the right legal basis for each copy, and follow-up when an account reappears. This is not legal advice; for defamation or threats, speak to a lawyer or the police.

Frequently asked questions

Can I delete someone else's TikTok account if I know their password?

Technically the button would work, but logging into another person's account without permission is unauthorized access in most countries, even if the account is abusive. TikTok also sends a verification code to the owner's phone or email before deletion. Report the account instead and keep screenshots as evidence.

How many reports does it take to get a TikTok account taken down?

No number does. TikTok told the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre in April 2026 that it acts on rule violations, not on the number of reports. One accurate report under the right reason, with the video link and timestamp, does more than many duplicate reports.

Does the person know if I report their TikTok story or video?

An in-app report does not show your name to the reported account. A copyright report is different: TikTok's Intellectual Property Policy says it may give the uploader the name of the copyright owner, and an appeal from the uploader is forwarded to the person who reported.

Can I stop people from reposting my TikTok videos?

A repost always points back to your original, so deleting or making the original private removes it from every Reposts tab. A re-upload of your video under another account is a separate copy, and it comes down through TikTok's copyright webform, which needs a link to your original.

How long does TikTok take to remove a reported video?

TikTok publishes no review time for user reports. Its Q1 2026 enforcement report says 94.4% of removed videos came down within 24 hours of upload, but most of those were found by automated systems before anyone reported them. Impersonation webforms with ID checks usually take longer.

Is TikTok going to be banned in the US again?

No ban is scheduled. The divest-or-ban law was satisfied when TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, majority American-owned, took over the US app in January 2026. The only US outage so far lasted about 12 hours in January 2025.

How to take down a TikTok story that someone shared about me?

The way to take it down is a report: how to take down a TikTok story someone else posted starts in the story's menu, under the reason that fits, such as harassment or privacy, and screenshot it first, because stories expire after 24 hours and the screenshot is your only record. Then report the account itself, so the violation counts toward a strike even after the story has gone.

A TikTok account or video that will not come down?

Send the profile or video links, what the content shows and what you have already reported. The review sets out which rule each item breaks, which route still applies, and which copies sit outside TikTok.
