Account reporting for a whole profile, channel or page: what an account report can end
Short answer. Account reporting means flagging the profile itself, not one post. Most platforms accept it only for reasons tied to the account as a whole: impersonation, a fake or automated identity, an underage user, ban evasion, spam, or an offensive name, photo or bio. Everything else is judged item by item, and strikes on items are what end accounts. The number of reports never decides the outcome.
People who want an account gone usually start in the wrong place. They report the profile with a reason that belongs to a single video or message, the reviewer opens the profile, finds nothing wrong with the name or the photo, and closes the case. Meanwhile the content that actually breaks the rules sits unreported. The split between an account-level report and an item-level report is the most common reason a justified report fails.
This guide maps account reporting across eleven services: YouTube, Twitch, Discord, Grindr, Bluesky, Kik, LinkedIn, Steam, Fortnite, DeviantArt, and the larger social apps covered elsewhere on this site. For each one it gives the path to the whole-account report, the reasons that path accepts, what the reporter hears back, and the item-level route that does more work when the account report is the wrong tool.
What is account reporting, and how is it different from reporting a post?
Account reporting is a complaint about the profile as a unit: who it claims to be, what its name, photo and bio show, whether a real person runs it, and whether it should exist at all. An item report targets one video, message, comment or listing. Platforms review the two differently, so the reason chosen decides which evidence the reviewer looks at.
The practical rule follows from that. If the problem is the identity of the account, report the account. If the problem is what the account posted, report the posts, because an item that breaks the rules earns a strike or removal and enough strikes end the account. YouTube’s own figures show how often that second path is the one that removes channels.
YouTube removed 2,732,395 channels between April and June 2026; 2,310,181 of them (84.5%) were removed for spam, deceptive practices and scams, and 7,741 for “multiple policy violations”, meaning three strikes across more than one policy.Google Transparency Report, YouTube Community Guidelines enforcement, Q2 2026
The account-level reasons are narrow and fairly consistent across services. The table lists the ones that justify a whole-account report rather than a report on content.
| Account-level reason | What the reviewer checks | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Impersonation | Name and photo copied from a real person or brand | LinkedIn, Grindr, YouTube, Bluesky, Discord, Instagram |
| Fake or automated account | Signs that no real person runs the profile | LinkedIn (“not a real person”), Bluesky, X |
| Underage user | Stated or apparent age below the minimum | Grindr, Discord, TikTok, Instagram |
| Spam or fake engagement | Bulk messaging, bought followers, inflated views | Twitch, YouTube, Bluesky, Steam |
| Offensive name, avatar or bio | The profile fields themselves | Discord profile report, Steam, Bluesky |
| Ban evasion | A new account run by someone already banned | Bluesky, Roblox, Instagram, Twitch |
Where does each platform put the whole-account report?
Almost every service hides account reporting in the profile’s overflow menu, the three-dot or “More” button, while item reports sit next to the item. The table below compiles the path, the account-level reasons offered and whether the reporter is told the result, from each platform’s help pages checked in October 2026.
| Platform | Path to the account report | Reporter told the outcome? |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube | Channel page → About panel → Report user | Video reports appear in Report history on a computer |
| Twitch | Channel → three-dot menu → Report | Confirmation only |
| Discord | Profile → three dots → Report User Profile | Not documented |
| Grindr | Profile → block icon → Report | No; Grindr withholds anything that could identify the reporter |
| Bluesky | Profile → three dots → Report account | Decisions are sent by email or in-app notice |
| Kik | Profile → three dots → Report User | Not documented |
| Profile → More → Report / Block → entire account | “Reported members won’t know who made the report” | |
| Steam | Profile → “…” → Report Player | Yes, a Steam message when action is taken on scam reports |
| Fortnite | In-game report on the player, with replay review | Not documented |
| DeviantArt | Report on each deviation, or the copyright form | The notice process runs by email |
Facebook and Instagram follow the same pattern with more options. The Facebook account, Page and group report splits identity reasons from content reasons in the same way, and a separate walk-through covers what an Instagram report actually triggers once it is filed. For scams that cross apps, the scammer reporting desks list the money-side routes that a profile report never reaches.
Does report volume ban an account?
No platform that publishes its review rules treats report volume as a ban trigger. Reviewers check whether the reported account or item breaks a rule; a hundred reports of a compliant profile produce the same result as one. Several services discard duplicates, and some penalise the people who file them. In account reporting, volume can at most change how fast a case is opened, not how it ends.
The platforms say this in plain words. YouTube’s help centre states that when reviewers find no violation, “no amount of reporting will change that.” Steam Support says moderators act only when an infraction can be verified against the reported account’s actual use, and that mass or automated reporting is disregarded. Bluesky’s safety team has said that mass reporting alone does not lead to suspensions.
Bluesky received 9.97 million reports from 1.24 million reporters in 2025, and 72.9% of reported accounts were reported more than once; the year ended with 13,192 temporary suspensions and 14,659 ban-evasion removals.Bluesky 2025 Transparency Report, 29 January 2026
Paid shortcuts sell the opposite idea. The TikTok report bot audit and the three kinds of Telegram report bot show what those tools send and who ends up banned, which is often the reporting accounts. Game studios publish the clearest data: Riot found in 2020 that 97% of Valorant players were never reported at all, which is why studios weight unique reporters and match evidence over raw counts, a point covered in the guide on what a Roblox report triggers.
How do you report a YouTube channel?
To report a YouTube channel on a computer, open the channel page, open the About panel from the channel description, click Report user, choose the reason that fits the whole channel, and submit. Reporting is anonymous. Use channel-level account reporting for impersonation, spam channels, fake engagement or an offensive channel name and art; report individual videos for anything that appears inside a video.
Many searchers ask, can you report a YouTube channel at all, since the flag on a video page is easier to find. The answer is yes, and the steps below are how to report a YouTube channel on PC, which is also the most reliable route because the About panel layout differs between app versions.
Open the channel page
Click the channel name under any of its videos, or open the channel URL directly. The account report sits on the channel, not on the watch page.
Open the About panel
Click the channel description (“…more”) to open the About panel, which holds the channel details and the report flag.
Choose Report user
Click the flag or Report user and pick the reason. Where a reason asks for example videos, add up to the requested number; those links are what the reviewer reads.
Add context and submit
Describe the pattern in one or two sentences, with dates. Then report the worst individual videos separately, each with its own reason.
That sequence answers how do I report a YouTube channel, how do you report a YouTube channel and how to report a channel on YouTube in practice; the wording of the query changes, the route does not. How to report a YouTube account works the same way, since a YouTube account and its channel are one profile for reporting purposes, and how to report a yt channel from a phone follows the same About panel in the app where the option appears. How to report channels on YouTube in bulk is not possible: each channel takes its own report.
How to report a YouTube channel anonymously needs no extra step. YouTube’s help centre states that “reporting content is anonymous”, so the channel owner never sees the reporter. Legal complaints are the exception: a privacy, defamation or copyright claim goes through the Legal issue option and carries the complainant’s details. On a computer, the Report history page shows whether reported videos were removed.
Two reasons need a word of their own. How to report a YouTube channel for buying subscribers: choose the spam or misleading reason and describe the fake engagement, because YouTube’s fake engagement policy forbids paying for views, likes or subscribers; a channel with very large subscriber counts and a few hundred views per video is the usual sign, but the counts alone prove nothing. How to report a YouTube channel for inappropriate content: report the videos themselves, because the reviewer judges the specific upload against the Community Guidelines, and strikes attach to videos. A first violation is usually a warning; three strikes within 90 days remove the channel.
For removal routes beyond reporting, including privacy complaints and court orders, see the YouTube channel takedown map.
How do you get a Twitch channel banned, and how do you report botting?
A Twitch channel is banned when Twitch staff confirm a Community Guidelines breach, not when enough viewers report it. Report the channel from the three-dot menu under the stream with the reason that matches, add timestamps, and report specific VODs or clips where the breach happened. Copyright problems go to Twitch’s DMCA notice instead of the report menu.
How to get a Twitch channel banned therefore comes down to filing on the right category with proof; account reporting on Twitch is weighed against the channel’s logs, not the number of viewers who flagged it. How to report a Twitch channel for botting changed in March 2025, when Twitch added a Viewership Tampering option under “Spam, Scam, Bots or Tampering”, covering artificially inflated views, followers or other channel statistics. The option was first shown publicly by reporter Zach Bussey on 2 March 2025.
After Twitch tightened viewbot detection in late July 2025, analysts measured sitewide viewership drops of up to 22%, a figure Twitch’s product chief disputed as overstated.Tubefilter, “Twitch viewbot crackdown”, 27 August 2025
Viewer-count checker extensions only compare viewers with followers and chat speed; they are estimates, and a report built on them alone rarely holds. Screenshots of chat with dead accounts, a view count that jumps by thousands in one minute, and the time it happened are stronger. For copyright cases, the Twitch stream copyright report covers the DMCA route, which can remove VODs and add strikes in a way the report menu does not.
How do you report a Discord account, and what gets one banned?
To report a Discord account, open the user’s profile, click the three dots beside Message or Add Friend, and choose Report User Profile; that report covers the name, avatar, banner and bio. For anything the user said or sent, report the messages themselves by right-clicking them on desktop or long-pressing on mobile. Discord bans accounts for confirmed breaches, not for report counts.
Account reporting on Discord therefore splits in two, and how to report Discord account behaviour depends on which half the problem sits in. The profile report handles an offensive or impersonating profile. Harassment, scams, threats and illegal content are judged message by message, so a profile report alone gives the reviewer nothing to read. To ban Discord account holders who break the rules repeatedly, each incident needs its own message report.
Discord disabled 357,056 accounts for non-spam policy violations and 35,456,553 accounts for spam in the first half of 2024.Discord Transparency Report, H1 2024
Discord’s support-abuse explainer, updated 29 August 2025, defines false reports as a policy breach in their own right. Servers are reported through their messages and the people who run them; the server itself has no single report button on most clients.
How do you report a Grindr account or profile?
To report a Grindr account, open the profile, tap the block icon at the top left and choose Report. Grindr offers seven categories, including Impersonation, Underage and Spam, then asks where the problem occurred: profile photo, profile information, chat message or album. Grindr’s moderators review the report; reporting does not block the profile, so block it as well.
How to report a Grindr account, Grindr report a profile and Grindr report an account all lead to that same menu. The “where it occurred” step is what makes it account reporting or an item report: choosing profile photo or profile information reports the account itself, while choosing chat message lets the reporter attach the last 30 chats as evidence.
To ban Grindr account holders who impersonate someone, the Impersonation category triggers a specific check: Grindr can suspend the reported profile until its owner passes a selfie verification. Grindr states its moderators work around the clock and that an appeal is reviewed by someone who was not involved in the original ban. Grindr also says it will not share details that could reveal who filed a report. Scams that moved off the app to payment apps need the money-side desks as well; the Grindr catfish report covers that case.
How do you report a Bluesky account or a Kik account?
To report a Bluesky account, open the profile, tap the three-dot menu and choose Report account, then pick the reason, such as spam, impersonation or a misleading account. Reports can also go to Bluesky’s moderation email. On Kik, open the user’s profile from the chat, tap the three dots, choose Report User, include the chat history and tap Report and Block.
How to report a Bluesky account for a single abusive post is different: report the post itself from its own menu. A Bluesky spam account report is the case where account reporting fits best, because spam is judged on the account’s overall pattern. Bluesky’s safety account has warned that it communicates moderation decisions only by email or in-app notice, never by direct message, so a DM claiming to be from Bluesky moderation is itself spam to report.
How to report a Kik account follows the profile route above. How to report a Kik group is less documented: safety guides from ConnectSafely confirm a whole group can be reported, through the group’s info screen, but Kik publishes no step-by-step page for it. For anything involving a minor or exploitation, Kik’s safety team takes email at [email protected], and reports of child sexual abuse material belong with NCMEC’s CyberTipline as well.
How do you report a LinkedIn profile, including as a bot or as an employer?
To report a LinkedIn profile, click More on the profile, choose Report / Block, select the option to report the entire account, and pick “This person is impersonating someone” or “This account is not a real person”. Then click Submit report. LinkedIn’s help page states that reported members will not know who made the report.
How to report a LinkedIn profile as a bot uses the “not a real person” option; LinkedIn has no separate bot category. Fake recruiter and investment profiles usually also send messages, which can be reported from the conversation itself as scams. LinkedIn catches most fake accounts before any member account reporting happens.
LinkedIn says 99.7% of fake accounts it acted on in the second half of 2025 were stopped proactively, before any member report, and 97.8% by automated defences.LinkedIn Community Report, July–December 2025
Employer account flagging is a separate route. When a profile falsely claims to work at a company, the company’s Page admins can report it, and LinkedIn runs a Notice of Inaccurate Profile Information form for false job titles or employers. That form is signed under penalty of perjury, so file it only with records to back it. Many false listings are honest mistakes, such as a former employee who never added an end date, and a direct message fixes those faster. The LinkedIn takedown routes compare the forms and who may file each one.
How do you report a Steam account, and is a Fortnite account ban for cheating permanent?
To report a Steam account, open the user’s profile, click the “…” menu at the top right, choose Report Player, select the category and the specific violation, and write a short statement about the interaction. Steam acts only on infractions it can verify against the account’s use, and disregards mass reporting. A Fortnite account ban for cheating is a one-year matchmaking ban on a first offence and lifetime on a second.
How to report a Steam account for cheating inside one game is better done through that game’s own report tool, because the developer’s anti-cheat team sees the match data; Steam’s account reporting suits scams, hijacked accounts and offensive profiles. Steam’s scam FAQ says the reporter receives a Steam message when action is taken, which is rare among large platforms.
From April 2025, Epic moved first-time Fortnite cheating offences to a one-year matchmaking ban and second offences to a lifetime ban, and lifted older lifetime bans that had already run for more than a year.Epic Games, Fortnite anti-cheat update, 27 February 2025
A Fortnite cheating report is checked against replays, and Epic counts hardware such as Cronus devices as cheating. A report about a player who only seemed too good gives the replay team nothing to confirm. Reports with the match time and the eliminated player’s name are the ones that can be matched to a replay.
How do you ban an art thief’s DeviantArt account?
To ban art thief DeviantArt account holders, report each stolen deviation and back the reports with copyright notices; DeviantArt’s copyright policy treats three strikes as the mark of a repeat infringer subject to a ban, and passing off someone else’s work as one’s own can lead to an immediate ban. A single account report without proof of authorship rarely does anything.
The DeviantArt route is the clearest example of item reports, rather than account reporting, adding up to an account outcome. Each notice needs the original work, the infringing URLs, contact details, a good-faith statement and an accuracy statement under penalty of perjury. Notices go through the site’s report tool, the DMCA form (which requires a free account) or by email to [email protected]. Proof of first publication, such as an earlier upload date on DeviantArt or another site, is what settles the authorship question.
DeviantArt also runs an automated system, DeviantArt Protect, which scans for copies of members’ work. By 2022 it had indexed more than 400 million NFTs and flagged close to 330,000 infringements, according to press coverage at the time; current figures are not published. Anyone who wants to ban art thief DeviantArt account holders on other sites as well needs a separate notice on each host, since one notice reaches one platform only.
What evidence makes account reporting work?
Account reporting succeeds when the reviewer can confirm the reason from the profile and the attached items in a few minutes. That means the profile URL, screenshots dated and showing the handle, links to the specific posts or messages that break a rule, and proof of identity or ownership when the reason is impersonation or theft. A report built on volume or suspicion gives the reviewer nothing to confirm.
Capture the profile before reporting
Save the profile URL and a full screenshot with the date visible. Accounts often rename or go private once reported, and the URL is the stable identifier.
Pick the account reason only if it fits
Identity, age, spam, ban evasion and the profile fields are account reasons. Everything a user posted is an item reason.
Report the worst items separately
Strikes and removals attach to items. Two or three clear item reports do more than a dozen account reports.
Use the legal form for legal problems
Copyright, trademark, privacy and defamation claims go through the platform’s legal forms, which run on a different track from community reports.
Report once and keep the record
Keep confirmation emails and report IDs. A second report from the same person adds nothing, but a dated record supports an appeal or a support ticket later.
Where account reporting has already been reviewed and declined, the remaining options sit outside the report menu: a legal notice, a privacy request, a court order, or a request to the host or search engine. The content removal service works through those routes and states which ones apply before any work starts.
Frequently asked questions
What is account reporting?
Account reporting is flagging a whole profile, channel or page instead of one post. Platforms accept it for reasons tied to the account itself, such as impersonation, a fake or automated identity, an underage user, spam, ban evasion or an offensive name, photo or bio.
Does report volume ban an account?
No. YouTube, Steam and Bluesky all state that the number of reports does not decide the outcome. A reviewer checks whether the account or item breaks a rule, and duplicate or coordinated false reports can get the reporters penalised.
Can you report a YouTube channel anonymously?
Yes. YouTube states that reporting content is anonymous, so the channel owner never learns who filed the report. Legal complaints such as privacy, defamation or copyright claims are the exception, because they carry the complainant’s details.
Does reporting a Grindr profile block it?
No. Grindr states that reporting a profile does not block it, so block the profile separately. Grindr also says it will not share details that could reveal who filed the report.
Is a Fortnite ban for cheating permanent?
Since April 2025 a first cheating offence brings a one-year matchmaking ban and a second offence brings a lifetime ban. During the first ban the player can still log in and chat but cannot matchmake or spectate.
How many strikes get a DeviantArt account banned?
DeviantArt’s copyright policy treats three strikes as the sign of a repeat infringer subject to a ban, and deliberately passing off someone else’s work as one’s own can lead to an immediate ban.
Will the person know I reported their account?
On YouTube, LinkedIn, Grindr and most other large platforms, no: community reports are kept confidential. Legal notices such as DMCA takedowns are different, because the notice and the sender’s contact details may be passed to the uploader.
An account report that went nowhere?
Send the profile link and what has been reported so far. The review names the rule that applies, the form the platform acts on, and what a report can and cannot end.
