How to report Discord server abuse or report a Discord user, and where other reports go
Short answer. To report a Discord user, right-click or press and hold the message and choose Report Message, or open their profile, click the three dots and choose Report User Profile. Discord documents no button for reporting a whole server, so how to report Discord server abuse comes down to reporting the messages and people inside it. Discord never tells the account who reported it, and only Discord can ban.
The menus take seconds, and how to report Discord server abuse uses the same ones. The outcome turns on what you report, because Discord’s Trust & Safety team judges a message, a profile or a pattern of behaviour, not a server’s reputation. The second half of this guide puts the same question to the other platforms people search in the same breath, from Kik and Hinge to eBay and 4chan, and marks where a report stops and content removal casework begins.
Between January and June 2024 Discord disabled 357,056 accounts for policy violations other than spam, disabled another 35,456,553 for spam or spam-related offences, and removed 41,002 servers.Discord Transparency Report, January–June 2024.
How to report a Discord user from a message or a profile
Discord documents two in-app routes to report a Discord user. For a message, right-click it on desktop or press and hold it on mobile, choose Report Message, then pick the rule it breaks. To report Discord user profiles, including a username, avatar, bio or banner, open the profile, click the three dots, choose Report User Profile and tick each element that breaks the rules before choosing the violation.
Searches for “report user discord” mostly want the profile route, but a message report is usually the stronger evidence: it carries the exact text, time and channel a reviewer checks. Instagram splits the same way between reporting a whole Instagram account and reporting one post, and the routes for a TikTok account follow the same logic.
-
Capture before you report
Screenshot the message with the username and time visible. Turn on Developer Mode under User Settings, Advanced, so you can copy the user ID and message link; an ID survives a name change, a display name does not.
-
Report the message that shows the breach
Each message is judged on its own text, much as a single reported Instagram comment is read. Ten reports about ten real messages give a reviewer ten facts; ten reports about one message give one.
-
Pick the reason that names the rule
The reason decides which policy the reviewer applies. A scam reported as harassment is checked against the wrong rule.
-
Tell the server’s moderators too
When you report a Discord user for something said in a server, Discord suggests contacting that server’s moderators as well, since they can act inside that server at once. Discord’s own action applies across the platform, and takes longer.
-
Block after you report
Blocking stops further contact from that account. The order matters: report a Discord user first, because reporting before blocking keeps the conversation in front of you while you still need it.
| What you want reviewed | Where to start | What Discord judges |
|---|---|---|
| A message in a server, DM or group DM | Right-click or press and hold it, Report Message | That message |
| A username, avatar, bio or banner | Profile, three dots, Report User Profile | The profile elements you tick |
| An app or bot | The route in Discord’s separate guide for reporting applications | The app |
| A raid on a server you moderate | Server name menu, Report Raid | The raid on that server |
| Illegal content, for users in the EU | discord.com/report, under the Digital Services Act | The content at the message URL you give |
How to report Discord server abuse when there is no server button
Report what the server contains. Discord’s reporting guide documents two in-app routes, messages and user profiles, and its support desk points server complaints back to the app. A server that hosts rule-breaking content is judged through that content: each accurate message and profile report adds to the case, and Discord can then act against the server and its owner together.
This is the answer to how to report Discord server abuse that most guides blur. Several describe a Report Server item in the server menu; Discord’s own reporting guide describes no such route for ordinary members, and the one server-level report they do document, Report Raid, belongs to moderators. The table turns how to report Discord server problems into the objects Discord reviews.
| What the server is doing | What to report |
|---|---|
| Organising harassment of a person | Each message targeting the person, and the profiles of the people posting them |
| Posting someone’s personal information | Every message containing it, under the rule on sharing private information |
| Running scams or phishing links | The messages carrying the links, and the accounts that posted them |
| Hosting sexual content involving minors | The messages, immediately, and the police or a hotline such as NCMEC’s CyberTipline |
Can you report a Discord server you have left or never joined?
Only through content you can still reach. Once you leave, the server’s channels close to you, so how to report Discord server content after leaving is settled before you go: copy the message links with Developer Mode first. A server you never joined gives you nothing to press, and an invite link alone gives a reviewer nothing to judge. Users in the EU can file an illegal-content notice at discord.com/report, which asks for the message URL.
When a server is focused on content that breaks the rules, Discord’s Warning System says the owner receives a violation and the server may be removed or restricted. Members of a server engaged in serious violations can receive violations too, while members who only saw the content get a warning that leaves their standing untouched. Facebook treats Pages the same way, where getting a Facebook Page taken down turns on what the Page publishes.
Discord report server raid: the moderator’s button
For moderators, how to report Discord server raids has one answer, the only server-level report Discord offers. Click the server name to open the dropdown and choose Report Raid. Discord limits it three ways: the reporter needs the Ban Members or Kick Members permission, it works only on the desktop client, and only in Community servers. Discord says it reviews raid reports to build tools against future raids, so treat Report Raid as a signal rather than an emergency line.
A raid, in Discord’s definition, is a large number of users or bots joining a server at once to disrupt it, and it breaks Discord’s Terms of Service. During one, the settings do more than the report: Pause Invites under Server Settings, Invites; Slowmode on the channels being flooded; a Verification Level of High or Highest; and AutoMod’s Block Mention Spam rule with a lower mention limit.
When Discord’s Raid Protection detects a join raid, it sends an alert to the channel you choose and requires a CAPTCHA from new joiners for the next hour.Discord Support, “How to Protect Your Server from Raids 101.”
Report the raiders’ worst messages individually as well. Report Raid tells Discord a raid happened; a message report asks Discord to judge a specific account.
What happens after you report a Discord user?
Once you report a Discord user, Discord’s Trust & Safety team checks the report against the Community Guidelines. Discord aims to review high-harm reports, such as child safety, violent extremism or imminent harm, within 24 to 48 hours and lower-harm reports, such as harassment or hate speech, within a week; complex investigations can take days to weeks. Discord says your identity is not shared with the account you reported.
If the review finds a violation, the account holder gets a system message naming the policy, often the content, and the action taken. Penalties scale with severity and history: a minor breach can remove a feature, such as posting images, for a few hours, a repeated or more serious one for days or up to a year, and the most severe harms go straight to permanent suspension.
| Account standing | What it means |
|---|---|
| All good | No active violations; every feature available |
| Limited | An active violation has limited some features for a while |
| Very limited | One or more violations have limited more features for longer |
| At risk | Any further violation may bring a permanent suspension |
| Permanent suspension | No access to Discord after severe or repeated violations |
Most Discord violations expire after 90 days and stop counting against account standing; more severe ones stay active longer. Temporary suspensions last up to one year.Discord Support, “Discord Warning System,” the system that began rolling out on 24 October 2023.
X and Instagram reach similar outcomes under other names, set out in what X can do with a reported post and the outcomes of an Instagram report.
Appeals are rare. In the first half of 2024, 1.85% of the unique accounts Discord took action against appealed.Discord Transparency Report, January–June 2024.
Can you get a Discord user banned?
Not by yourself. You can report a Discord user and hand Discord the evidence, but Discord decides, weighing the severity of each violation and the account’s history. Its Warning System says there is no fixed number of chances before a harsher penalty. Asking a group to report the same content, or sending several reports about one issue, breaks Discord’s rules instead of speeding anything up.
One accurate report of a severe harm can end an account: Discord names child safety violations as the kind that lead straight to permanent suspension. For insults, arguments or a user simply being unpleasant, no number of reports reaches that bar. Offers to get a Discord user banned for a fee sell a decision Discord does not sell; a paid service can only file the reports a client has standing to make, the same ceiling that applies to Instagram account removal services, paid TikTok content removal and X account removal desks.
Discord ban by user ID, for server moderators
A Discord ban by user ID removes someone from your server, never from Discord. With Developer Mode on, right-click the user and choose Copy User ID; a member still in the server can be banned from the same menu. The question of how to ban a Discord user not in server has no field in the app to paste an ID into. On desktop, the usual workaround is to post the mention <@ID> in a private channel, right-click the mention and choose Ban. Moderation bots offer ban-by-ID commands that do the same through Discord’s API.
Reporting someone on Roblox, Kik, Hinge, LinkedIn and Substack
Every platform asks the same question in its own form: does this item break this rule. What changes is where the report starts, whether the reported person learns who filed it, and whether a time limit applies. The table sets out the routes for the platforms searched alongside Discord, and the sections below cover the detail each one gets wrong.
| Platform | Where the report starts | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Roblox | Report Abuse inside the experience, or on the user’s profile | Chat reports carry the messages to moderators |
| Call of Duty | The in-game reporting tools in each title | Reports feed RICOCHET Anti-Cheat enforcement |
| Kik | The person’s name in the chat, Report User | Messages from new people wait in New Chats, where they can be ignored, blocked or reported |
| Hinge | The profile, or the Past Matches list | Past Matches covers the last 30 days |
| More on the profile, Report or block | LinkedIn does not notify the person reported | |
| Substack | The three dots on a publication, post or comment | Reviewed within 72 hours |
| Quora | Report on the answer | Only the author or Quora can delete an answer |
Can you report someone on Roblox?
Yes. Inside an experience, use Report Abuse to send the specific chat or content to Roblox moderators; on the website, the Report Abuse link on a user’s profile opens the same form with the name filled in. Give the time and what happened, because the moderators judge the content in front of them. The Activision report a player option works the same way in Call of Duty: Activision documents in-game reporting title by title, from Vanguard to Black Ops 7, and asks players to report cheating as it happens.
How to block and report Kik user accounts
To block and report Kik user accounts that message you first, tap the chat in New Chats and choose Ignore, which offers delete, block or report. In an existing chat, tap the person’s name at the top of the conversation, then Report User and a reason. For safety issues you can also contact Kik Trust and Safety to report user behaviour by writing to [email protected], and that is the address to use if you want to email Kik support to report a user with more context than the app allows.
Messaging apps put the report at the conversation, as reporting someone on Snapchat and reporting someone on Telegram both show.
Can someone see if you report them on Hinge?
No. Hinge says the reason for a report stays confidential and users are not notified that they were reported. The report reaches Hinge’s team, not the person.
Can you report someone on Hinge after they unmatch?
Yes, for 30 days. The Past Matches list shows people you unmatched or who unmatched you in the last 30 days, and you can report from there. Once the report is in, that profile leaves your list, though you stay in theirs.
Can you report someone on LinkedIn?
Yes. On the member’s profile, click More, then Report or block, and choose what you are reporting, such as profile information that is fake. The answer to “how do I report someone on LinkedIn” changes with the object: a post or comment is reported from its own More menu, and a message from Report this conversation. LinkedIn does not tell the person you reported.
Between July and December 2025, 99.7% of the fake LinkedIn accounts stopped were caught before any member reported them, 97.8% by automated defences.LinkedIn Community Report, July–December 2025.
Can you report a Substack, or delete a Quora answer?
Can you report a Substack publication? Yes: click the three dots on the publication and choose Report, or report a single post, note, comment, chat or direct message the same way. Substack’s Standards & Enforcement team reviews reports within 72 hours, and the reported writer does not see them.
People who search “delete quora answer someone else wrote” have usually asked the question, and asking gives no control over answers. Only the author can delete an answer; Quora removes one only when a report shows it breaks Quora’s policies.
Reporting sellers and counterfeits on eBay, Etsy, Depop, Poshmark and Temu
Marketplaces run two separate routes. A buyer reports a listing or a seller for breaking the marketplace’s rules, and that report stays confidential. A rights owner files an intellectual property notice, which is a legal claim that names the complainant and usually reaches the seller. A counterfeit can travel either way: the buyer flags it as fake, and the brand files the infringement notice.
That split matters because rights claims pass your name on, as an Instagram copyright report does and as the Instagram forms that share your details spell out.
eBay: a listing, a seller or a counterfeit
The eBay report a listing route starts on the item page: select Report this item, choose the category and reason, and submit. The eBay report a seller route is for conduct rather than a listing, such as an offer to trade outside eBay, a threatening message or false contact details, filed through Report an issue with a seller in eBay Help. Brand owners use the Verified Rights Owner program, sending a Notice of Claimed Infringement.
eBay says it proactively removed about 7.9 million potentially counterfeit or prohibited items in 2025.eBay 2025 Global Transparency Report, May 2026.
Etsy and Depop counterfeits
An Etsy counterfeit report comes from the rights owner, through the Etsy Reporting Portal or Etsy’s intellectual property infringement report form, with proof of the trademark and the listing URLs. On Depop, a counterfeit report starts on the listing: tap the three dots, choose Report, and in the Depop report counterfeit item options pick the reason saying the item is fake, then explain why. Depop says it removes listings it believes are fake unless the seller can provide valid authentication.
In 2025 Etsy removed about 180,000 listings for potential counterfeit violations flagged by its own systems and closed about 28,000 shops for repeat infringement or counterfeiting.Etsy 2025 Transparency Report.
A Depop counterfeit report protects the next buyer. Getting your own money back runs through Depop’s buyer protection, a separate claim with its own evidence.
Can you report a seller on Poshmark?
Yes, but a refund depends on timing. Open a case within three days of delivery and before you accept the order or rate it; accepting closes the case window. If Poshmark reasonably believes the item is counterfeit, it refunds the item and shipping, and the seller is not paid.
Can you report a seller on Temu?
Yes. Buyers report through the seller’s store page or Temu’s in-app support chat, with the order number and evidence. Rights owners use Temu’s IP Protection Portal or [email protected], though Temu says its own takedowns now outnumber brand-submitted reports by more than 200 to 1.
Temu says it resolves more than 99% of intellectual property takedown requests within three business days, and that more than 1,500 brands had joined its Brand Guardian Initiative by December 2025.Temu announcement, PR Newswire, 11 December 2025.
How to get content removed from 4chan, BitChute and cheater websites
Sites with thin moderation still have a route, but a narrower one. To get content removed from 4chan, report the post for a rule breach while the thread is still live, or send a DMCA takedown notice under 4chan’s copyright policy if you own the material. BitChute takes flags and email. Cheater websites usually let only the author delete a post, so removal from search results often matters more than the site.
4chan threads expire as newer threads push them off the board, but third-party archive sites keep copies, and each archive answers only its own notices. A 4chan report asks whether a post breaks 4chan’s own rules; whether a post is defamatory is a legal question that button does not decide, and the copies need the archives’ own contacts or a search engine route.
To get content removed from BitChute, click the Flag icon under the video, or email [email protected] with the URL and a description. BitChute says reporting needs no account, though a logged-in report lets it contact you, and email reports wait longer because staff enter them into the system by hand.
7% of U.S. adults say they have heard of BitChute, and 1% regularly get news there.Pew Research Center, “Key facts about BitChute,” February 2023.
The search “get name removed off cheater websites” usually ends at a removals page saying only the author can take an entry down, beside paid removal offers. Google has a policy for delisting pages about you from sites with exploitative removal practices, which is often the faster lever, alongside getting personal details out of Google results.
Some situations fit no report button at all:
- A legal claim. Defamation and harassment that break no platform rule need a lawyer’s letter or a court order, or, in the EU, a notice under the Digital Services Act.
- An account whose holder has died. Platforms run separate requests for family, as Facebook’s memorialize-or-delete choice shows.
- Your own account, banned after false reports. The platform’s appeal comes first; account recovery help is for the appeals that fail.
Frequently asked questions
Does Discord tell someone you reported them?
No. When you report a Discord user, Discord says your identity is not shared with the account you reported. The person may receive a violation notice naming the rule and the content, never the reporter. Context can still give it away, for example when the reported message was a direct message only you received.
How long does a Discord report take?
Discord aims to review high-harm reports, such as child safety, violent extremism or imminent harm, within 24 to 48 hours, and lower-harm reports, such as harassment or hate speech, within a week. Complex investigations can take days to weeks. Repeating the report does not move it up the queue.
Can a Discord ban be appealed?
Yes, one violation at a time. Every violation notice links to a form for requesting a review, and Discord says it prioritizes people who believe they were permanently suspended in error. Account standing as a whole cannot be appealed. A permanently suspended user has a grace period to appeal before the username is released.
How do I report a counterfeit item on eBay?
As a buyer, open the listing, use the Report this item link and choose the counterfeit reason; if you already bought it, open a return through the Money Back Guarantee as well. As the brand owner, file a Notice of Claimed Infringement through eBay's VeRO program instead, which names you to the seller.
How do you report a listing on eBay?
Open the listing, select Report this item, pick the category and reason that describe the breach, and submit. The report is about the listing, not the seller. To report the seller's conduct, such as an offer to trade outside eBay or a threatening message, use Report an issue with a seller in eBay Help instead.
Reported it, and the content is still spreading?
Send the platform, the links and what the platform told you. The reply sets out which route fits, what it asks you to prove, and whether the content has already reached other sites or search results.
